A taxi driver who killed a 68-year-old pedestrian in Essex has been handed a 12-month community order and told to carry out 80 hours of unpaid work.
Laurie Buer, 47, from Clacton, admitted causing death by careless driving at Chelmsford Crown Court on Wednesday.
Doris Cornwall, 68, was struck in Station Road, Clacton, on 24 June last year and died the next day at Queen's Hospital in Romford.
Buer was also disqualified from driving for a year.
After the hearing, Insp Steve Brewer said: "The incident was captured on CCTV in Clacton town centre and shows that Mr Buer reversed into Mrs Cornwall as she was crossing the road.
"Mr Buer reversed his vehicle in a one-way street and failed to see Mrs Cornwall.
"I have no doubt that the consequences of this crash will remain with him for a very long time, but sadly for Mrs Cornwall her life was cut short as a result of these careless actions."
