I was just reading through the Act and came across this:

Licensing of booking offices
2.—(1) The activity specified in paragraph (2) is designated as an activity for which a licence under Part I of the Act shall be required, but no such licence shall be required–

(a)
in respect of the carrying on of that activity before 16th November 2009; or .

Quote:
(b)
where the number of relevant vehicles in respect of which bookings are taken does not at any time exceed 3. .

(2) The activity referred to in paragraph (1) is the use of premises for the carrying on of a business which consists to any extent of the taking of bookings, by any means of communication, from members of the public for the hire of a relevant vehicle.

Is this correct ? do you not require a licence if you have less than 3 vehicle's ?

Cheers.

3 or fewer vehicles is for the booking office licence. Provided you have no more than 3 relevant vehicles working through the office, no booking office licence is required. If at any time you have 4 or more, you would then need to apply for one. This was (I believe) to take small operations (the little guy working from home sort of thing) out of the legislation.

You may still need planning consent to use the site as a taxi office or even to erect a radio mast. Your local planning dept will be able to advise you.
This is a seperate requirement and not dependent on the number of vehicles being operated.

Well it would be to get us trading while we are waiting on our licence, trading with three vehicles on the road is better than not?.

Are you sure we will need planning consent? we wont be erecting a mast and its a room within an industrial unit ?

Not sure.
Ask your planning dept.

No mast will simplify things a bit.
