With the road works blocking one end of the street, and the usual student night in the Hawk & Hunter, and crowds on the pavement having a drag and the street packed to the gunnels with illegally ranking cabs, how long will it be before there is a disaster here?

If the Police close the street of at coming out time because of the potential hazard, why would there be no hazard if the coming out time was impromptu, brought forward by a fire?

If in such an emergency people flooded onto the pavement, how would the taxis get out to allow the fire tenders the access they would need to deal with it?

Sure, they ultimately would, but how much valuable time would be lost? How many unnecessary casualties would there be?

This is a disaster waiting to happen.

And if the council already knows about this - a wee birdie tells me it does - and have failed to address it, won't the fault lie at its door?

BTW

Why should cabbies properly ranked on the Mood rank have to sit and watch their worked being stolen from under their noses by this illegal ranking?

I was gonna post the exact same thing as I just got up from nights

talk about desperate measures to find/attract work

1st time I've done a weekday night in about a month and couldn't believe my eyes when I saw around 7-8 taxis parked on and around the corner of broughton st/Picardy place junction leading upto the roundabout withbtge roadworks and about another 4/5 parked on the other side WAITING to get into Picardy place from the otherside as more taxis were "ranked" beside hawk & hunter. And it wasn't even 2am

the police saw this they would have a field day moving us on. They already turn a semi blind eye at the ranking of tiger lily, cav (lava & ignite) and city nightclub on week nights as they don't possess any potential hazards to other road users but this ranking, on double yellows, on a corner, beside roadworks and over 2 pedestrian crossings leading into a major roundabout is laughably shocking

police have been on a mini crackdown about overflowing ranks, this won't make them any happier
