The views expressed in this column ain’t those of the National Taxi Association

Scotch Crank

My column appears to be achieving critical review in Edinburgh, which if I actually cared, I suppose I’d take as a compliment. Unfortunately thecritical acclaim comes from a crank, a person who during one year was opposed to taxi delimitation, and then the next was totally in favour of it.

This same chap appears to have written to Edinburgh CC opposing a recent fare increase application, whilst being blissfully unaware that the costs of running a taxi, due to the horrendous price of fuel and with effectively means running a taxi costs more than ever before. He and his cohort now complain about a lack of trade for taxis, with private hire seemingly taking over the place, whilst at the same time criticising every Hackney radio circuit within the City, yet he still maintains that more taxis are needed on the streets of Edinburgh. This guy is truly the cab drivers’ champion.

He is actually on record as stating Edinburgh’s policy of managed growth led to the rape of a female who mistakenly got into a private car driven by a salivating rapist monster who was masquerading as a taxi / private hire driver. That’s nice for the headlines Wee Jimmy boy, but he doesn’t
actually have any proof that taxi related rapes are actually more common in either regulated or deregulated areas. For some sad reason the Edinburgh press love this guy, he’s a regular star in the local
press, blaming ECC and managed growth for everything. We have those kinds of cranks down here too see Jimmy; in fact every area has a crank that writes into a local paper each week complaining about anything and everything. Of course, in taxi talk we allow our cranks to have columns.

See I do have a sense of humour, don’t I Bernie me ol’ Cockney sparra!

Now Wayne, two things immediately spring to mind.

1. The views expressed in this column ain’t those of the National Taxi Association

Even the rag which allows you to vent your childish spleen won't support your views  I guess it's got too much sense

2. A 10 year-old knows that "Scotch" crank is wrong. Scotch is whisky, what you eeded to say was "Scot's" or "Scottish".

Now say thank yu Wayne

BTW Should I bother to answer your infantile piece?

Are you worth bothering about?

12. Whilst seeking to promote best practice in relation to quality and safety we do not set out to offer interpretation of the legislation governing taxi and PHC licensing. This is a matter for licensing authorities and the Courts. Licensing authorities will appreciate, therefore, that it is for them to seek their own legal advice as appropriate in regard to the exercise of their licensing powers.

But do I have the time? That is the question. And, are you worth it? After all, you mean less than nothing to me.

However, I'll think about it.

tx_op the clue is in the words "Best Practice".

The Scottish government predicted what could happen if Best Practice was ignored. And it did, because the council ignored Best Practice.

Now consider a QC making a case for the victim who was assaulted.

M'lud, the government told the council what would happen, and it did. I submit M'lud that by failing to adopt Best Practice the council was negligent and my client suffered as a result.

The only question here is how much the victim would get. Do you doubt this tx_op?

However, there is also embarrassment for the Scottish government. Because the concordat it signed with COSLA agreeing not to interfere in council matters for the life of this Parliament made it "advise" rather than control or lead.

And a victim suffered because the Scottish government failed in its duty as the governing authority to ensure public safety.

This just cranks up the damages award for the victim(s).

Do you doubt this also tx_op?

Seems our governing authorities are in something of a fankle.

My only problem here is that I don't know how to contact the victims to tell them.

Perhaps the NOTW will do the job for me

Just to oblige saf  !!!! nWatch this space !!!!

I can understand how you find yourself totally overwhelmed tx_op. Logic and reasoning appear to play no part in your pretendy little world of, businessman.

Dundee council won't even consider granting your illusion, until Edinburgh sorts itself out. You can be sure your lot is watching Edinburgh, very closely.

Nope just a realist who knows something about Human Nature.

There always exceptions to every rule of course .....

Which why I said doubt.
