IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO ALL SOUTH YORKSHIRE, DERBYSHIRE AND NOTTINGHAMSHIRE TAXI DRIVERS

Taxi divers need to be made aware that a lot has happened over the past year within motor insurance, and in particular taxi insurance, which has lead to uncertainty and change within the taxi insance sector. Insurance premiums have started to increase and must increase further, so taxi drivers need to make provision for the impending increases. The main reasons for this happening include:

(a) insurers have reduced their premiums to a suicidal level (to gain market share) during recent years
(b) increased competition (new entrants, not having the experience in insuring taxis, getting it wrong!!)
(c) the dramatic increase in claims costs
(d) recent and ongoing poor investment returns

(f) FSA solvency requirements and regulation
(g) effects of the banking crisis
(h) & the recession

Well penk4, perhaps you would like to enlighten us all, as to why as soon as the word taxi or PH is mentioned the premiums sky rocket
A purpose built wav is cheap to repair, and most saloon manufactures have made there vehicles easy to repair
take a skoda superb as an example HID pays £250 with 6 years NCB social and domestic yet when I had one it cost £850 with 9 years NCB, only difference it was on the road a bit more, no difference in my eyes
Insurance company's are out to screw us all to the hilt
I could not help buy notice the sales pitch BTW

You could use the word alleged to let us know what happened

Also does your company still cover phv that pick up without being pre-booked like Norwich union(aviva) do.

my working mileage is 850 miles a week, i pay £850 (i think)

as a private motorist when i drove to spain on holiday (1000 miles in 2 days) i didnt pay any extra premium, so the extra mileage arguement is invalid

as a courier my sprinter cost £800 a year and it was parked up 3 days a week, and only did 90,000 miles in 2 years

insurances should be put on fuel, drive more/pay more and have NO uninsured drivers..........

That would seem logical.

Sounds familiar, it appears that is how a certain company over here does their insurance for it's drivers on a weekly basis and not all the vehicles are owned by the company in question. If it's true they are yet again putting themselves first just to line their ever expanding greedy pockets

Many risk factors are involved in insurance age/experience/gender of driver for example
Annual mileage is one of the most important. Every driven mile is a risk.
Most private motorists do around 12,000 miles a year. Much over that and you will pay more or find they get stroppy about any claim. That's why they ask how many miles you drive in a year.
We do 3 or 4 times that - as you did as a courier.

BTW was your van covered when parked up or was it uninsured for 3 days a week? Stationary vehicles are a lower risk of accident but still subject to vandalism, theft etc. Still a risk to the insurer.

parked in a VERY secure (i.e. customs bonded) warehouse, as were all my vans

and in spain i was on the wrong side of the road!

of course it did, they aint insurance brokers, just wanted to charge like they were

im not even sure they could cover the "rented" cars without clashing with the "hire/self drive hire" line
