Who's wonderful Idea was it to take perfectly fine Taxi and PH drop zone at the front of the Terminal building and narrow it down so only buses can actually drop off directly in front of the building as it is now....now you have to drop off just short of the ranked Taxis and a guy comes chasing you to make sure your not up to mischief!!

All this has served to do is encourage more vehicles to use the easier accessed public drop off point but the knock on effect of that is that there are two many vehicles including Taxi, PH and Private cars all competing for enough space to let their passengers alight.

What a waste of time and money that little "Improvement" has turned out to be :?

Because I registered my PH cars ages ago and I get though just fine...the guy in the Parking portacabin said nothing had changed in that respect..

The Only differance now is the gates open up...the big ramp goes down and theirs a second set of gates at the far end before i drop off...

But to be honest its no easier... :?

It costs nowt Skip...you just ask for a form at the parking portacabin, take it home and fill in the form with your company and vehicle details etc, take it back to the portacabin at the short stay parking entrance, they pop your registration number on the system and the ANPR cameras pick it up each time you approach the Inner drop off zone....unless your number plates covered in dead flys and then it gets a tad embarrassing as you sit at the gates and the damn things play silly buggers... :?

So you can drive in the left hand lane drop off and go for free right outside the terminal building, just like the public one, what about pick ups though do you just go in the same way?? or have to drive through the short stay and pay on the way out

Its a F*cking disgrace.....Newcastle airport pulled the same stunt, you can still drop off for free if your punter Didnt mind walking several hundred yards to the terminal.

Edinburghs worse, its busier at the public drop off Zone and bloody near impossible to park to drop off at peak times.

The Taxi/PH drop off is a bit of a scary beast to use...an ANPR operated gate and a 3 foot high retractable barrier, then you tippy toe your way along past the bus row...then another gate to allow you to drop off on a section of no more than 8o yds just before the Taxi rank, I can imagine that would be a bloody horror story when its busy if not imossible.

So a quid added to the punters fare might be a better option if it guarantees a bit of drop off zone space for 2 minutes to let your clients alight.

Surely these money grabbing Tw*ts can use the Existing drop off rather than create a new one...

The system used to work absolutely beautifully until thay started f*cking about with it..its almost as if they are deliberatley setting out on a mission to make their Customers lives as miserable and as difficult as possible..Just who are the faceless pr*cks that come up with such ridiculous Ideas...

I thought that when they changed the layout at the front of the building it was only supposed to be the cabs that were using the forward travel rank that were allowed to go past the front of the building and drop off behind the rank.

I presumed that cabs like mine would have had their registrations removed from the list to make this happen.

But I have to admit that I have never tried to go through the barrier since then.

I'm curious now.

REGULAR visitors to Edinburgh over the last 10 years could be forgiven for longing for the days when it wasn't the busiest in Scotland, or indeed the fastest-growing in the UK.

For its massive expansion during the past decade has been played out against a background of turmoil on its bustling forecourt.

As the airport's passenger numbers were soaring a decade ago, so was anger outside the terminal building as its complex
system for taxi firms dropping off and picking up passengers struggled to cope.

For years, only specially licensed taxis were able to pick up fares from the airport, forcing black cab drivers who had dropped off fares to return to the city centre in empty vehicles.

The airport faced mounting criticism after passengers faced queues of up to an hour at peak times as the fleet of officially approved private-hire vehicles and airport cabs struggled to cope.

The city council was forced to intervene after cabbies claimed the airport was flouting the rules over private-hire vehicles by allowing them to pick up fares at the forecourt.

Police officers were also regularly called in to settle disputes as tempers flared.

Taxi-industry leaders mounted a campaign to secure equal access to the terminal building, but it was not until 2006 that a new system for cab drivers was fully in place.

By 2004, the airport, which was being serviced by about 300 private-hire vehicles, had relented and announced the creation of a dedicated rank for black cab drivers.

But it took another two years for the airport to introduce a streamlined system at the terminal for buses, taxis and other cabs, and private motorists.

The controversial new system meant that taxi firms and private-hire operators faced having to pay airport operator BAA £1 every time they entered the airport.

And the new system also saw car drivers being charged to collect family and friends from the airport for the first time.

The £1 fee, which allows them to park for 15 minutes, rises to £2 for 30 minutes, in a new car park.

Only buses and licensed airport taxis registered on an automatic number-plate recognition system were be able to use the lane directly in front of the terminal building.

The airport was later forced to ban dozens of cabbies for blocking an exit road for buses and coaches.

However, a further shake-up was orderedin the wake of the terror attack on Glasgow airport in 2007. Work got underway in March of this year to install steel-coated concrete bollards outside the terminal.

A new security hall and departure lounge are also due to open at the airport later this
