Well I think he's writing as a hypothetical aspriring plate holder, and I wouldn't say the article as a whole is pro-derestriction, but he's defo flying a kite, and he defo wrote those words 8-[

Skull, you should have more respect to those who proffer a more powerful argument than your own.

By the way, I forgot to include the author of the words I quoted at the beginning of the thread.

Wayne Casey  =D>

It is normal practice to say where and when a quote originated.
This enables any reader to check and see if it is true or not.
And to see the context, as it may even be a quote of someone else.

Surely that would not be a problem for you.

Thats normal practice......But I wrote lots of things over the years so I imagine the quotation is right.

I wondered when the toys would come out of the pram.

No, but I thought he would have recognised it, I just wondered when he didn't say anything.

Failing that, all he had to do was ask, instead he denied it point blank and is now getting a bit stroppy.

Indeed, it's your prerogative if you want to change your mind on things, but it's nice to know that you don't think the likes of Tone is a serf after all

I was calling you that, because you hide behind a nickname, to be fair, I did ask first.

Perhaps your view on how a person like skull can earn £100K through an illegal activity such as the sale of plates he was given freely would be a start.

Or a view on how deregulation would affect those poor people that gave him the money and will be in debt for the rest of their lives paying it off?

Or maybe a view on deregulation as a whole, and if the public have benefitted in terms of lower fares and higher standards and if so how, maybe even if the taxi trade has benefitted and how much money PH have earned from the process?

Is a cab driver better off paying £5K for a cab and plate, or £20K for a cab with free plate because the LA brought in WAV only policies and age limit on first license?

So many questions, and all for another day.

Nighty night

You're just jealous because Skull is a better profiteer than you

It takes how long to pay off a taxi plate?

So have you been using your column in Taxi Talk to warn people of the dangers of derestriction? Great sytem, restricted numbers, but hey, don't buy a plate whatever you do.

(Perhaps you have, but I've only got a few issues of the magzine, including the July 2004 edition, as it happens  )

And Edinburgh pulled the plug in the past, thus anyone buying is surely aware of the risk, or do they want a one-way bet?

Big question, and self-evidently there are winners and losers, but the end result is at least a level playing field.

As for fares and standards, these are a matter for the council to regulate, and I can't see any of them bringing them down.

Well I'm not in favour of overregulation, but it's certainly the case that in the second scenario there will be a lot less cabs than in the first scenario, so the driver will have more work to pay for the higher standards.

I really do like the fact that you feel the need to point out to someone that it does not take the rest of your life to pay off a taxi plate.

Especially that I needed to point out that very same fact to you, Only yesyerday!

It's good to see that you are learning something.

I suppose that's one way to avoid answering the question

the driver will have more work to pay for the higher standards

Do you have evidence to support this, cos where I'm sitting it certainly isn't true. They do however get to spend more time in their cabs
