Two eco-friendly pedal powered taxis will be working in Sheringham this summer after being licensed by North Norfolk District Council.

The three-wheel rickshaws will travel between the North Norfolk Railway station and the promenade.

"We're delighted to add this fun and sustainable type of transport to the already varied and top-quality fleet of taxis," said councillor Hilary Nelson.

The taxis will start working from Wednesday, 14 July 2010.

"I'm sure visitors will love them," said councillor Nelson.

The licensing process involved a rigorous safety check on the vehicles, as well as checks on vehicle ownership and insurance cover - the same as it would for a normal taxi.

Pedal powered taxis follow the start of the City Cruiser service, which saw the licensing of north Norfolk's first Smart car taxi, which started operating in North Walsham on Monday, 12 July 2010.

What part of this taxi calibrates the meter Milage and costs..is it the Pedals or wheels or the pendulum motion of the male Cyclists Scrotum or the rhythmic swaying of female appendages...it has to be accurate what ever it is?
