There was a thread on here a year or so ago where the CRB folks told the GMB, and some representatives of the London PH trade, that enhanced (I take it that's what you meant) CRB checks were pointless, and if a council refused a license, following an enhanced check on a driver, they wouldn't be able to defend that in court as they have no powers to require such checks.

I think a rep of the GMB at that meeting asked for written confirmation of that and was indeed sent it.

how many have (as i have) paid £10 for thier police record to compare with thier enhanced CRB check?

the two are exactly the same, the police check came back in 14 days

I'll recommend to my new Tory MP that the CRB gets binned. It'll save the taxpayer money, us a lot of grief and public safety won't be compromised.

It would be interesting to know how many people have been refused employment due to a CRB check. I don't know of any.

I do, however I think folks have got the CRB procedure wrong.

The CRB just gives an applicants history, it's up to the job giver to decide if that history effects the application.

its quite legal in any trade to ask applicants to produce thier police record, if they dont want a job they neednt, if the police would supply councils with a copy direct (£10, 2 weeks remember) why not? after all they have to process the CRB which takes 2 months to get to the cops...

That's correct . . . . . but who was it that had been ticking the box that has now disappeared from the new form?

It wasn't the applicant driver . . . . . . so who could it have been, I wonder?

And that's how Enhanced CRB were obtained by those councils that required them in the past.

I wonder what those councils will do now that the box which used to be mysteriously ticked, AFTER the driver had filled it in is no longer on the new CRB form?

I think you'll find the cops get it first from the CRB office, the cops then send it back to the CRB office who then send it back to your local LO.

It's just a paper trail and the CRB is just a glorified PNC check.

Indeed. Lets scrap the entire Criminal Records Bureau, save public funds and return to old-style police checks that took a week.
