20 drivers have been suspended upto yet. As for the appeal the Council have told them there's a 6 week wait at the court for a hearing.

Don't they get to keep their license whilst the appeal is pending?

They can still apply for a stay on the suspension.

The court takes fresh applications every day.

These lads need to go and see a solicitor. :?

How pathetic, forgive me for taking a minute to throw up. .. Not more, weak willed cabbies getting humped by their council.

Anyone would think these cabbies are the veritable shi* on the councillors' shoes.

Sutton in Ashfield, 127 cars for 40 spaces, so that's only 113 owners and how many drivers, allowing these guys get humped by their LA?

Yeah, these guys need a lawyer alright, it's not like their colleagues are going to back them up anytime soon.

Say what, 200 owners and drivers and handful of feckwit councillors', but the councillors have the upper hand.

Oh I get it, the law states that you can beat cabbies at will, so who gives a feck, only the 14, that are getting fecked, now isn't that right.

Christ, how did I ever end up in this fecking trade, you know, I wouldn't pi*h on the lot of you if you were on fire?

A fecking lawyer

Their letter telling them about the suspension must say that they have 28 days to appeal.

If they lodge that appeal with the mags court they can apply to have the suspension delayed until a full hearing. And that will happen.

If the lads don't want to pay for a solicitor I suggest they go to the Citizens Advice, and speak to the press, and go seek their MP.

But they need to do things now.

Will they get to keep their license while they await a court hearing?

Councils are not supposed to be using suspensions as a form punishment. You are either fit to drive a cab or not. It is totally illogical to suggest that once you have served a period of suspension you are fit to drive again.

In most cases the court will back the council. The worst case scenario for the council is being forced to reconsider their actions, and by that time, the suspension has usually done its job. The 14, who have suffered is merely the council setting an example to the rest, “this is what can happen to you if you don't toe the line".

It's all pretty pathetic really, but no more than scumbag cabbies deserve. If you won't get together and back each other up then what do you expect.

Oh and if anyone out there does decide to give them support, remember, challenge under the wrong legislation, and nothing will change. Every aspect of the councils procedures need to be looked at under Human Rights Legislation. :-|

Here's a thought.

Sussex, why don't you set up a fighting fund? You could put a donate now with Pay Pal button on TDO, to lend these guys financial support? Surely, if their case is in the collective interests of all cabbies then why not back them up?

I for one, would put my hand in my pocket to turn this council over in court.

How strange that you come up with a good idea to help them after you've called them scumbags :?

If you are not prepared to stand up and to fight for what you believe in, then in my book, you are scum. Talk is cheap. :-|

“All this” as you put it, is about giving away control over your trade to autocratic councillors. We either get together collectively where everyone is equal under the same banner, or we hand everything over to our Lords and Masters. It's got absolutely nothing to do with de-restriction but everything to do with taking control for ourselves, together we are stronger. You dictate our own identity, your own status and your own self-worth in this life. Don't expect anyone else to do it for you, least of all your political leaders.

A restricted trade is a divided trade with everyone feeding off each other. We have never advocated “deregulation” as you put it. We want, de-restriction with more regulation and stringent quality controls. The trade needs to evolve, and if that means years in the desert, through a de-restricted market, then so be it. If we can't take control for ourselves then we deserve nothing less.

The begging bowl mentality has got to stop. If you take the fight to them, eventually, they will have to give you what you want.

You can't help people who don't want your help. They have resigned themselves to the fact that they are going to be suspended for one month.
