Well that's a bit below the sporran

I was qualified to play for Scotland, you know.

Problem was that my soccer skills were more Victoria Beckham than David.

Wait a minute, aren't they English? #-o

Confusing, innit? :D

entertaining but totally pointless surely what ever happened to freedom of speech and the right to have an opinion ? If you don't like the opinions of some of our more abrasive scottish colleagues don't read them or just remind them of how successful their national football team is !

I think that went by the wayside a long while ago.

Now some opinion has been cast on here, I'll clarify:

I have no objection to robust debate. But, I believe it displays a certain mentality when contributors resort to name-calling and personal insults.

Many topics on here start to develop into very good debates indeed but are subsequently hijacked by individuals resurrecting their own personal vendettas and prejudices.

A plea from the heart: Can we all make a determined effort to keep sensible debate and information threads on topic and save the insults and vitriol for appropriate posts.

I know it would certainly encourage my greater participation if I didn't have to plough through reams of personal comments to pick out one or two salient comments.

And the title of this thread? Most of this vitriol appears to emanate from north of the border. Most contributors from that region join in with the rest of us but, one or two appear to want to turn every thread into a battlefield. I was not targetting you, Caledonian Cabbie, but let's just say that one or two comments that originated with you were the 'straw that broke the camel's back'

Thank you.

So what you're saying is 'you're not targetting anybody, but, if the cap fits'

Well I'm absolutely astounded that you've picked me out as the villian of the piece, so perhaps you could be more specific?

What bit of "I was not targetting you, Caledonian Cabbie" did you not understand, or is it you feel the comfort of the old cap

It must have been something you said that started the ball rolling with the, mmmm how shall I put it, the not so friendly comments in the Scottish threads. My old dad, god rest his soul, always use to say 'if you gonna a feed the ass you'll eventually have to collect some sh*t' :D

And what part of Caledonian Cabbie was the one who "broke the camel's back" was it that you didn't understand, Toots?

Well you seem to be turning the same trick as Cabbyman - a smear is preferable to proffering evidence - but if you can't be more specific then we'll just have to wait to see what Cabbyman comes up with.

But rereading his initial post in this thread, then I don't think I've got anything to fear, from Cabbyman at least :D

If I've been less than civil on occassion then it's in response to something worse, and I certainly haven't been meting out the kind of abuse that some have, indeed Cabbyman's crude insults and stereotyping at the outset are a case in point.

But since he only seems to post a couple of times a week perhaps he's got me confused with someone else, so at the moment perhaps he deserves the benefit of the doubt, but I await a retraction. :D

But an apology is unnecessary

That's not what he said is it  He said "let's just say that one or two comments that originated with you were the 'straw that broke the camel's back'" and it is my belief that he was just saying that the comments that followed after you posted were indeed the 'straw that broke the camels back'.

Nah I wouldn't say that, evidence is so much better, but, to be fair I was being sarcastic. I was having a little joke hence the wink
