If TDO, created a section dedicated to the abuse of power by Local Authorities. Members could vote on the merits of each case and the level support to be given. A poll would simply give an indication as to the strength of feeling concerning the actions of the LA, abusing its powers. Any donation one might make in support of legal action would be purely voluntary.

I think it would encourage drivers to register, vote, and participate in the running of their trade, as well as voicing their opinions.

I'm all for giving people a chance. And you expect these guys to help themselves, most are socially conditioned not to have an opinion.

Give them a chance.

I've tried already offering Nidge advice on the phone, I think others have done similar, I dont want the b*stards to get away with it (the abuse of power).

Most of them have cabs on finance, most have mortgages and commitments......all will be unable to work.

The council are misusing a section of law and in my view gambling that none of the drivers will take them on...........it only takes one, but none have the balls.

Lots of the information they require is available on here for free. Now I don't know if Nigel has pointed them in the general direction of this site, and, until such time as he lets us know I shall reserve my judgement as to whether these guys are indeed able to be helped.

You are right everybody does deserve a chance but again there are already trade bodies out there that could have helped if they had bothered to join them.

Holy [edited by admin] CC, I never thought I'd hear you using language like that about a Local Authority.

These guys are probably scared CC, and don't want to make things even worse.

Balls, is something you acquire when your back is against a wall, and you've resigned to your fate.

The case in question might not be the first, but it won't be the last either.

The next time an LA, abuses their power, let's give them something to think about.

Funny CC, I never had you figured as one of us?

Skull,

This week theres Nidges manor and Bristol with there stupid policy about taxi colours, and a few others too, ripping off people in respect of fees and all kinds of silly f*cking made uppy rules.

In one area a council is acting on out of area licenses, in another they do nothing.

I think the current climate is about sh*te civil servants justifying their sh*te little jobs, and nothing to do with actually improving my job and the service we give.

The latest is in MrT's place, I'm sure he'll explain.........comapnies testing their own vehicles???? ffs whatever next.

CC

So, you think there is a need for an “Abuse of Power” section on TDO.

I'm all for getting suited and booted to do them some damage.

Are you and Mr. T. up for it?

Oh right of course how silly of me to suggest they should have joined a trade body. Perhaps something like the NTA where the likes of CC and MrT are already there to help

Skull... firstly I commend you for wanting to do something.. and although I disagree with you on certain things... I'll always be the first one to say that you have the right to your opinion and to take your life forward in your own way.

now comes the but..... I have been fighting for the rights of private hire and hackney since 1976 .. I have been involved in three national fights against the Government, always on the top table, on two occasions as treasure as well as national co-ordinator, I collected many many thousands of Pounds, but only when the sh*t had hit the fan. I went to many different areas working with locals trades trying to establish a working relationship between them and the council's. I brought trade reps to Sefton to sit in on committee meetings here..... the one thing I learnt was that the majority have plenty of time to play pool, watch football, and knit..... but they never had any spare time to make sure they had a way of earning a living..... a knowledge of Hackney and private hire law is essential... but if you have to go to court you have already lost.... you have to know your enemy and turn the very rules that govern them against them..... make it so that they are the people who are at risk of losing their jobs.....

It would have been due to the fact that there were indeed female versions of the likes of you way before your time. Who also felt their human rights were being ignored and they probably had more balls then you'll ever have :-|

The above is a fair comment Mr. T. but things have changed. The internet has seen to that. We are not one but many. Nothing is confined to a single burgh. We are now in the position to marshal our forces. All it takes is a lot of injustice and a little communication. The Government is out of control as is their Local Authorities. Where's the tipping point? As far as I can see there is not a lot left to lose but there is a lot to fight for.

Do we stop them taking the pi**?
