Fact.... the law was changed to give councils the power to immediately suspend a driver's licence.
Fact.... licensing officers are abusing that power.
Fact.... a driver is innocent until proven guilty.
Fact.... the court has the power to grant bail or not.
Fact... I haven't got a chance in hell of changing the law of the land.
Fact.... I do support it's correct use.... and no drivers will be suspended for over ranking
I did not say I got the Licensing Team to agree.. I said we... the we being all the trade reps hackney and private hire, fleet owners and drivers..

Without challenging section 52 under Human Rights Legislation, you have nothing Trevor. The council is paying you, lip service. :-|

Chris, you don't even know the format agreed to by Trevor and his bum chums, but you already agree they "have gone THE RIGHT WAY on this" without even knowing what they have agreed to, but now you would like to have a look at it.

Thick as feck.

a. To get any agreement with the LA on use of Section 52 is a step forward and so I applaud.

b. I would like to see it because if it is a good agreement, that both sides can live with, it may well be a model for agreements in other Manors.

Thick as feck? - No not really, in this democracy I have the right to disagree with you on any subject. Because my opinion differs from yours, it does not reflect on my intelligence or lack thereof. Resorting to personal insults does however, have the immediate effect of reducing the power of your argument.

Regards,

You have no agreement, only lip service. There is nothing legally binding upon the council not to abuse their powers.

Oh and btw Chris, the day you have your own opinion it will be a first, but I won't hold my breath waiting for it to happen. :-|

Unfortunately you're wrong ....But then I do tell people to learn how councils work.... it will become a policy... and that means that to change the policy the licensing officers will have to go back to the Licensing Committee...... I don't think I will be challenging under Section 52 ..... and nor could I.... as I don't hold a licence.... someone else will have to go there...... and probably be accused of doing so because of a vested interest..

Thanks for the link.... I was impressed the first time I read it... and think that the information it contains is extremely useful....

Mr Skull I have my own opinion on many things:
Capital Punishment.
Abortion.
Council Tax.
Hunting with dogs.
Freedom of speech.
Trade Unionism.
Politcal Parties and "first past the post or settle for a coalition".
The best way to catch Bass, Conger, Pollock, Blue Marlin........

Now on some of these my opinion may match your opinion or they may not - sure as hell my opinions will match with somebody or possibly with millions, this does not stop them being "My Own Opinions".

Keep breathing.

Thats a very loaded question.

To answer in full would take me weeks, and would then take you days to read.

If you bounce around TDO you will pick up on what my opinion is of many areas of the trade.

If you are asking my opinion of the Taxi trade in your Manor, or even in your country, my experience is old and therefore out of date and limited to experience as a passenger whilst visiting on my old ships.

I try to get a feel for whats going on in the trade as a whole through TDO, various publications and the like.

My opinion of the trade as a whole - like the Curates Egg, good in parts.

My opinion of the future for the trade, could be rosy if we get the bad bits of the aforesaid egg sorted. To do this we need to a Hymn sheet we can all sing from.

Trevor, you are a shinning example of someone who is secure in his knowledge of how council's work. Unfortunately, you never had it right in the past or at present and you along with your chums are the reason the trade is [edited by admin].

Why should the council listen to you or your bum boys? It's not like you are challenging them for control over their abuses of the law?

Once again, the begging bowl comes out in the hope the council throws a few scraps your way, to take to your members.

Policies, come and go, Trevor, and what's more any time they want to dig someone out anything they have agreed to will be thrown in the bucket.

The truth is Trevor. Your so called “Trade Representation” is completely toothless. You have nothing to negotiate with, no big stick to make the council sit up and take notice.

As I have said before, if you don't have a War Chest stuffed full of cash and the legal muscle to boot you are kidding yourself on. All you have is a tea and buns operation.

I think I will do it my way.... the way you say does not work.... the one thing about the taxi trade..... is that it is full of dreamers who always know best.... and then vanish.

You have to give Skull credit.... he is improving.... it's a slow process..... but I'm sure... that if we persevere over the next couple of years... we will get him to a level one NVQ standard as a human being...... as for Jasbar.... fatally flawed from conception.... may be a 1944 experiment gone wrong...

We take action Mr. T, even to the point of representing ourselves in court. And what's more, we are up for anything the council should choose to throw at us. The council and the Cab Inspector can't intimidate us, and they know it. We don't feel it is right to pander to the egos of those who would abuse their powers, unlike you. You empower these clowns for your own personal kudos. What you actually achieve with your tea and buns meetings, is really next to nothing. The trade would be better served if people like you picked up a dirty magazine on your way to the toilet.

I love the way you play the nuetral card whenever you express your opinion, how can you be nuetral with such a strong opinion

It's called telling it the way that it is, Toots. Trevor might not like what I say, but I think if he was honest with himself, he would recognise it to be the truth.

I don't like the way councils' abuse their powers any more than he does but pandering to their egos achieves nothing meaningful. If the council understands you can hurt them politically by fighting them through the courts. They will not only give you what you want, but they will seek to have you as allies rather than having to go to war to make a point.

The only reason one negotiates a settlement in any kind of conflict, is to halt hostilities because of the financial and political damage caused to both sides, even the victor. That way everyone's a winner.
