Not sure about your rank even town, but where I live and work 95% of the people smoke. I have decided (with the help of my none smoking family) that its time that I quit for good.

Problem for me is almost everyone I know(at work) smokes.

I plan to talk to my Doc about getting help stopping, but I have this great fear that I am already losing the battle because of my work.

Have you noticed that more taxi drivers smoke than other occupations?

Have you quit successfully as a hack or cabby?

How did you do it?

You don't need to go to your doc, some of the chemists can put you on free prescriptions, for patches, gum or any other substitute to help you stop
You can even get them from your practice nurse.

Go to the doctor and tell him everything you've tried has failed, patches, gum, inhalaters, etc etc. Ask him if you can go on Champix or Ziban, they both work well and before you know it you'll be off the ciggies.

I can't pack up yet because some kind person has bought me 4,000 Benson and Hedges back from Spain.

Interesting.

I would say in my manor less than 40% smoke.

As for the trade I would say only about 25% smoke.

Maybe the other 75% have all died.

My dad was the most obnoxious/stubborn/pain the ar** that you could imagine, when it came to giving up smoking.

He started smoking at 12 and smoked senior service for much of his life, yet he gave up overnight, and didn't smoke again for the last 10 years of his life.

Believe me if he could do it, anyone can.

I really wish you well.

Very similar tale to yours, Sussex.

My dad was told by his doctor, that if he did not stop smoking he would be dead in six months. He stopped. He lived another twenty years, aged 80.

Another dear friend who refused to stop since being diagnosed four years ago with COPD, died recently. Funeral on monday. Age? Fifty One. Left a heartbroken spouse and teenage daughter.

This is what smokers don't mention when folks like me point out that smoking does harm others.

No it's not it's only 20 packets. 2 people went abroad and bought me them back so that's 10 sticks each

The Goverment say there's a limit but as long as they are the same brand you can fill your boots.

They will do me until next year.

That was a very generous gift from them. If you paid for them it is illegal. They can't be sold. They are for personal use.
