From time to time I have to wear a suit, and if I'm working the cab prior to my suit wearing event I do get the feeling punters are impressed.

Might be imagining it, but not sure I am. :?

Peaked cap? White gloves? A salute as well perhaps?

A taxi or PH journey is a special way to travel & more costly than a bus, tram or train, so dressing accordingly so that the customer experience is special for them is right in my book!

Get a grip. It's a lift from A to B for a few quid more than the bus.

Clean and tidy is sufficent for this job.
You want uniformed drivers with (or without) the bowing and scraping, hire a limo and pay full whack for it.
FFS

And we all wonder why the trade is screwed!!

FFS!!!

I had a cab the other day from home to take the wife for an appointment.

We don't live in the area that I am licensed in & the destination had no parking within the area, hence the cab.

The bag of sh*t that turned up was a disgrace & so was the cab / car. If we hadn't have been in a hurry I would have f*cked the driver off!!

Crap all over the floor in the back & a one litre half-drunk bottle of water in the front footwell, which I stepped on as I got in, slipped in the process, banged my knee against the dahboard & the sport-top on the bottle blasted open as I got in, showering the dashboard with water.

All the way to the destination I b*llocked the driver & told him he & his car were a disgrace & that I had severely banged my knee for no good reason other than his negligence. On arrival I gave him the fare & told him why he was not getting a tip.

Until the cab trade gets it's house in order, we deserve what we get spewed at us!!

This is the 21st century; 1950's standards won't do any more!!!

Try reading what I said.

This guy hardly fits the bill now, does he?

You may think that everyone should dress up like they're going to a funeral for this job. That's your right. Don't expect everyone to agree.
Around here, the effort would be wasted on the p*ssheads, junkies and scumbags we deal with on a nightly basis.

When Station Taxis first brought in the dress code, a driver named Roger, bought himself a Chauffers cap black gloves, and white shirts with epaulettes on bearing the word taxi, also a tie with taxi embroidered thereon in an attempt to take the p**s ,when he greeted people dresed in this way they threw money at him in the way of tips, when driving drunks he used to get out and salute them and open the door, he earned as much in tips as he did in fares, so the public do take notice. He is now retired, but left his mark.

Brummie Cabbie, did you take his driver Number or Cab/PH number?

Did you complain to his circuit?

Did you complain to his LA?

If you answer "No" to any or all of the above, have you done anything to improve the situation - NO.

Whilst I appreciate you putting us on TDO in the Rembrandt, it doesn't actually achieve much.

When I get a punter who moans about other Hacks or PH I ask them the same questions - never had one who has actually complained. Hopefully they will complain in the future. (Not about me I hasten to add).

I was that annoyed I did ring the local licensing department; then I realised that I did not have his details.

Oh! And the most distressing thing was (& this probably prevented me remembering to take his details), that upon arriving at the destination I could not open the passenger front door from the inside.

You are right, I should have taken the details, but my disabled wife was my priority & I clean forgot.

In fact, I think I have enough details about the vehicle for the licensing department to find out who the driver & vehicle were via the PH booking records & to take action, so I am calling them now.

Sorry to buck the trend of this thread, but I have to agree with Brummie. I have been with a firm 12 months now where i am required to wear a shirt and tie. The result has been an unbelievable, better tips, compliments from passengers on a daily basis. The result, in this recession I have had my best year in the last 30. Although it has been mostly credit work (more tax). I always thought a dress code was bo**ox for a cab driver, but if I had known what a difference it made to the attitude of the punters I would have done it years ago.

And isn't it strange that the two biggest & best PH firms in Brum also have a dress code, with a waiting list of drivers ready to join them!!

Do you have a black one with red piping around the peak & the word 'Taxi' on the front, also in red?

Black & red; so sexy!!!

I have now reported the matter to the local Licensing Enforcement Officer & he is confident that the information I have given him is enough to locate the driver & vehicle & he intends to do that today.

Thanks for the b*llocking Mr Chris the Fish; you were 110% right.

Stinky Pete you seem to have missed a vital point on the dress code issue you have posted. The so called driver had to attend the meeting because when he approached a lady East Coast representative who was doing on the spot checks on the condition and cleanliness of the vehicles in the station(which is a no smoking station) he had the wrong dress code on which he has been asked on numerous occasions to put right and also he was SMOKING,Something that i see you bring to peoples attention on a daily basis

This was reported to the Taxi company putting the drivers permit on the line.So i think the taxi company did the driver a huge favor not to withdraw his permit at the meeting dont you.
