The only stipulation needed, imo, is that they are safe. If the LA is satisfied then, surely, a PHV plate and licence will take care of the rest. That the picking up of passengers would also be regulated. No flag downs, no ranking on the street etc. Will Mr Donnelly be willing to jump through all these hoops to get on the road?

He is getting a VOSA license to run it, not a private hire license. The rules are very different. He gets his licence, he registers his route, he charges seperate fares. Job done.

OK I stand corrected. Still prefer my way though, if it's harder to achieve.

For a Tuk Tuk to be road legal has to comply with the SVA testing of the DVLA. As long as these say they are road worthy and fit to carry the number of passengers (mine carries 6) then licencing authorities should not really be able to disqualify them.

Of course they should be able to ban them, as they are unsafe.

Do you think it is the Tuk Tuk's themselves that are unsafe or could it be the way that they are being driven?

Both, and the way punters can act in them.

Hmm, I can imagine that a couple of pi55ed up punters might think if funny to try to get it to roll over going around a corner.

Tuk Tuks like any vehicle have their restrictions, as a professional tuk tuk driver I have to make the judgement of wether I am prepared to take a passenger or not. Yes they can behave badly and try and roll the vehicle, but so can they behave badly in a saloon and try to sway the vehicle and open doors whilst driving along, ( I am sure we have all had that one). The tuk tuk driver is in charge of the vehicle and it is up to him to either stop the vehicle all together or to warn the passengers that if they continue to bring the vehicle and other passengers in danger then the trip will be terminated. this is just the same as in any saloon vehicle.

I can't say that I have had it happen in my saloons either.
