    10p, I couldn’t believe what I was reading!!! That 10p will pail into insignificance after the vat and fuel escalator rise in January I would say at least £1.27 /litre, even now it's £1.22 in some areas then it will be 2.5% extra vat on all your parts for your vehicle. I don't think you have much of an argument about an increase and even if its the lack of a democratic vote that you complain of, I think the rise is a reasonable one. Most insurances have increased 30/40% how much has yours gone up? £200.... more? The reality is that you are wrong but as other learned members have already stated you can always under charge....but I bet you won't because you will start to realise the reality of the large bills you WILL receive in the next 12 months.
As for the Sorry bit, well that's just good PR. The Taxi boss is just pushing the blame off himself and his drivers. I suspect he will not drop his prices though!!

may be PR for you but i main it, my earing i dont get paid so how that, and who said anything about it not reasonable, what our members said they did not want it, and they have said they will but it againg in March 2011.

what the hell is wrong with Majority saying no thanks. P/hire are a lot cheper so would you pay more when you can go for less.

Bolton Council as said No to the removel of Double Fares over Xmas for Hackneys, how that.

let see in the next 52 weeks whats being said on here.

Hi. Charlie...... I see you have put a little bit of beef on.... but so have I... you put your arguments forward... and the council chose to ignore... you . did your job....but... the outcome might well work in your members favour... what we do know... that is fact.. is VAT is about to increase... insurance has risen... dramatically.. in the North West.... over 100 per cent...... I am quite certain that the implementation of a rise now... is a hundred times better than applying for a fare increase after Christmas.. keeps smiling.

You can't educate some people MR T. Any fare rise is good for the drivers and any idiot who says we'll lose trade over a small increase is deluded.

Charlie needs to open his eyes, if his members want to run on Micky Mouse fares let them do it. I bet he'll be back at the Council in January when the new VAT rises have kicked in.

stop moaning?, unlike a lot of rep out there I do as my members ask, now call me old which i am, but as long as i can remenber it was always a majority thing for a fare increse.

According to the website of Preston City Council there are 265 licensed hackney carriage drivers which in my reckonning the majority of your 79 members who were against the increase is not the majority of 265 drivers.
Or do you feel only your association has the right to decide on an increase or not.

well the P/hire will benifit.[/quote]

The private hire will be breathing a sigh of relief someone has to make the first move and they will follow suit as stated in other post everything is on the increase VAT, insurance ect.[/b]

Charles007- You don't do democracy, can't spell it, don't understand the concept.

79 Objections is not even a majority of your 'members'! It is a tad over a quarter of the City's Hackney drivers.

Come clean, this was nothing to do with what the trade needs/wants or what is in the public interest, it is another attempt to land a blow on PHCA.
We know it, even your members have admitted it!

Take defeat like a man, you have had plenty of experience of it since you arrived in Preston!

For a trade rep to tell the public our fares are too high is an attempt to turn the public away from the trade. You are a disgrace!

Read the comments on TDO, even people who have no connection with Preston can see through you!

I dont know if anyone has noticed, but fuel has gone up and is going up further, licensing fees have increased, insurance has increased and is increasing and VAT goes up in January.

Given the above, people expect charges to increase.

That is all correct.

However there is a shock for areas that use a fare formula including the AA stats, and it's not a positive one.

Due to the price of second-hand cars rapidly increasing, the depreciation element of the AA stats has decreased. Which in turn has led to lower mileage rates.

So despite insurance, fuel and vat going up, it appears fares wont be.

and work is on the way down, to put up fares will only lead at this time to loss of work.
