Strange views these councillors;

Councillor Anne Wright is on the licensing committee in Durham;

She opposed tesco's opening in a village as it would “detrimentally affect the vitality of the village, potentially leading to empty premises that could become a target for anti-social behaviour.”

Shame her committee cannot see the foolishness of dezoning the county.

Personally tailored guided tours around Northumbria. Transport provided. Pick ups arranged from nearest railway/bus station, airport or guest accommodation. Accommodation can be arranged.

Now any guesses which councillor on the licensing committee does the above? :lol:

and it aint Anne

Is it unique for a COUNTY be a LA?

they could still "zone" it, how will they do a knowledge test when there may be several large towns/cities in the one LA?
Wirral-Flintshire-Wrexham-Denbighshire-Conwy-Chester & Cheshire West-Cheshire East-Shropshire soon to name a few around here.

Merseyside County Council may be no more, but, Merseyside is still here. Wirral isn't part of Cheshire and hasn't been for a long time. Merseyside contains the metropolitan boroughs of Liverpool, Knowsley, Sefton, St Helens and the Wirral. So as I asked previously how does Wirral fit in with the others?

As an operator in Durham, I feel the colour policy is only a problem if it is implemented from a certain date ALL taxis must be white.
If the White vehicles are brought in at replacement of vehicle I would have no problem.

We currently have 7 zones in County Durham, and it doesn't work!
You pull into Durham City Centre at peak time, to drop a fare off, and you have people trying to get in. You tell them that you can't pick up from the streets in Durham, as your not licensed to work in Durham. They tell you "It says f'ing Durham County Council on your door sticker" followed by a bit of hassle!

We will be all expected to pay the same for our plate and badge if the zones remain, but will all have different tariffs in our meters, and different levels of work.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want all of my cars sitting in Durham hacking all the time, leaving my town with only a few over worked taxis, I would just like to be able to drop a fare off within the county, and have the chance to pick another fare up!

As I am sure anyone who has ever tried to get a taxi in Durham on a busy Friday or Saturday night will know, your better off phoning the companies in outlying towns and villages or even as far away Gateshead & Newcastle in the hope they have a car clearing in the Durham Area.

Hows the knowledge test going to work with over 885 square miles to cover and 12 major centres of population?

When I did my knowledge test for Durham County Council's Zone 3 (Former Derwentside Zone) I had to do the full county knowledge test, IE the exact same exam used in Durham, Bishop Auckland, Weardale, Easington etc etc.

So I had to learn all about all of the major centres of population, pubs, clubs, hotels, tourist attractions. Was a nightmare, but that's what we had to do! I think the test is now more localised, where by half the questions are for the area you work in, and the other half cover the county!
