You keep going on about raising standards through quality controls, but, what quality controls? Currently the qualification required is for a driver to be 'fit & proper', which, varies throughout the country and certainly varies now as opposed to when these laws were written. As I've asked Jasbar if you de-restrict what standards are you going to want or more to the point not want

Dougie seems to have found the key.........have the qualifications......have a survey.......save up money........and pay for a license.

The added bonus is that pensioners keep nice and warm in the winter!

ffs

these people say he's insane.......I say he needs knighted!

What you and Dougie are proposing is a rehash of the current system whereby a reduction in service to the public creates an artificial plate value. The public is then drip fed to the service provider to justify their “investment”. In other words, the public is sold to create a profit for the council. The qualified drivers, on the other hand, are squeezed until the pip's squeak.

You and Dougie are both insane, you need locked up not Knighted.

It would not be for us to decide, but the trade as a whole. And if they couldn't get their act together to have an intelligent consensus of what serves their interests and that of the public, then too bad.

At least we will all be equal. The Destiny of the trade will be in our own hands for better or for worse.

There will be no carpet baggers, no inequality, discrimination or the exploitation of drivers everyone will be in the same boat.

Hmmmmmm

exploitation......who's exploiting who?

Dougie suggested medallions.......and improved system on the US version, where those who could only apply were those with driver licenses........coupled with demand surveys.......so the public could be guaranteed sufficient numbers.

Your suggestion has a proven track record of failure.........and you tell us Dougie is mental?

And the program is? or is it programme?

Whatever.

I dont see how you draw that conclusion about Dougie, you see, he doesn't come on here and insult anyone who disagrees with him, he hasn't offended 98% of the TDO membership (active anyway).

He's given a view about medallions........which he's actually willing to turn around from the US model to suit the average driver in Edinburgh, and more or less guarantee them a return.

FFS

In some places they'd call that genius.
