9th January 2011

Dear Mr Macleod

Freedom of Information request.

I refer to the recent report i the Edinburgh Evening News, "150 criminal cabbies told they can stay on the road".

http://edinburghnews.scotsman.com/topst ... 6682904.jp

The report records that 326 objections to licence approval were made by the Taxi Examination Inspector on behalf of the Chief Constable, the council agreeing in 171 cases.

Whilst I recognise that Data Protection obviates you supplying the name of any individuals involved, or specific case information which could lead to identification of individuals, I request under FOI that you provide me with the following information for these same 326 objections.

1. Details of the categories of complaint made by theTaxi Examination Inspector and the numbers of instances for each, divided into Taxi and Private Hire.

2. Details of the number of complaints upheld in each category divided into Taxi and Private Hire.

3. Details of the guidelines provided by the council to the Inspector concerning complaints and the Standing Orders both the council and the Inspector operate under in respect of such complaints process.

4. Specific details of the definition of "fit and proper" used to determine whether any individual should be granted a licence, or whether an existing licence should be renewed.

Thank you for your assistance with this matter.

Yours

Jim Taylor

Much as I hate to say it,
That seems to be a sensible thing for you to take an interest in.
I would certainly be curious to see whatever comes back.

Oooooooh it seems SO wrong to agree with you!
