Deristriction has really worked in dublin !

For every Dublin there is a London.

Please expand on this comment sussex :D

He's saying, at a guess, London is delimited, yet due to the high standard of their knowledge test, the chaff is weeded out.

In fairness to TDO, even though I believe taxi delimitation is wrong, the site did say many years ago dublin seriously needed age limits and high driver standards before delimitation.

Although, I am reminded by a certain report from the Great Border City back in the mid 1990's, where the Police gave the view that if standards were too high, 'not enough people' would take up the option.

Oh I thought he was suggesting that for every over subscribed delimited place there was a place like London that had wonderfully high standarrds and enough work for everybody

Not any more there isn't!!

Because I have a strange feeling that when the recession is over, the work that the cab trade in London lost due to the down-turn in the economy, will not all return to the black cabs.

Don't forget that there are now 70,000 plus LICENSED mini-cabs & because they are licensed, businesses that had the huge accounts now look differently at the competition.

If the standards are high only the right people would bother to apply (in most cases) which surely must be the best thing for the public

This I know but many people have licences their cars as minicabs to avoid paying the congestion charge.
I wondered how many of the number quoted don't actually take fare paying passengers?

According to their submission they have 50,000 vehicles, 60,000 drivers and 3000 operators.

That's some income. :?

That sounds a bit more like it, but still a bit more than I would have anticipated.
