You know my post above is the end for you Jim, go and do a 12 hour shift instead of a 6 hour one for fecksake,

Reggie what is it with you and 12 hour shifts? You ever heard of driving time.
Tell you what as a member of the public who wants to feel safe when getting transported in a taxi I think it's time for the traffic commisioner to take over and all Taxis tachographed.
That way taking out of our councils control.

It would be fun yes. Maybe just then owners would revise their rentals to the drivers of Edinburgh.

Maybe just then the drivers in Edinburgh would see what they were getting shafted for whats the average night shift £45 sun-thurs,£70 on a friday and £75 on a saturday.

When I started in the trade a full time driver paid the same whatever nights he worked, fair enough a part time weekend driver paying more because it's a second income but now all jockeys are getting those terms.

So derestricted or not a 43 hour week should be more than enough imho for any person to work.

I also know for a fact that this has been brought to the attention of a lothian MP and MEP for their attention.

Tonite £65. Rental £40. Fuel £16.62.

I worked 6 hours for £8.38.

No problem though. The owner got his. Every thing in the garden is rosy.

Me? I'm gonna buy an AK47 and point it up Cllr Keir's jacksie.

That'll energise GCHQ. I'll expect the wake up call.

C'non, please break the door down PM so's I can get enough sleep to survive your shakedown.

After 58 yers., I've just realised our society is completely f*cked.

Another 6 hour shift from Jasbar, you pay for 12 but only do 6, just enough hours to pay your rental and fuel :? :?

You have a cheek Jim

Jim Taylor thinks working 6 hours is reasonable, then telling the trade it should be de-restricted YES guy's a part timer telling us how to run our business  In Skull's word, You couldn't make this up

Do You think someone who thinks working 6 hours instead of the 12 he has paid for should be telling the trade how to run it's affair's :?:

My ar-e is in the seat for 10 hours mon-thurs and 12 hours fri-sat, that is what i have to do just now to gaurantee breaking even, Jim thinks paying for 12 and working for 6 is reasonable

So reggie whats your view on driving time then?

The driver pays for 12 hours. He can't possibly be in the taxi that long even 4 days a week can he?

In the interest of health and saftey(for driver and customer) I hope not.

Now who's fault is that?? You had the opportunity to work 12 hours but only worked 6???

Out of a 12 hour shift you would be lucky to actually work or be driving for 4 hours on a week day

A lot of a Taxi drivers time is spent waiting you know standing out of the Taxi and having a blether on the ranks etc

You should know this if you are a cabbie though :?:

Makes no odds reggie as long as you are at your cab ranked up or not you are at your place of work and it counts as driving time.

So you think working a 64 hour week involving driving is ok?

Or do you think Taxi-drivers are just not able to have a life and normal working hours and fare paying passengers are intitled to a driver who has not been driving for too long in a shift.

Well that's fine then. Presumably 100 hours a week would be OK in your book because the driver will only actually be driving 30 hours a week or so.

But as long as it pays the rental, eh Reggie?

Hope you made that point to Mr Salmond when preaching the virtues of your NY medallion system
