I expect the system will be digging me up somewhat sooner rather than later. It's just the way of it.

I was looking through my Licensing Conditions book, and feck me. I couldn't find anything about allowing customers to treat you like shi*e.

“Our staff have the right to work without the fear of abuse or assault”

I am sure I've seen the above up at the council on trains and on buses but not in taxis.

I only have one rule for customers in any taxi I drive - BE NICE.

I simply reserve the right to defend myself in such situations, and I really don't give a feck what Frank Smith or the council thinks.

No one is protecting my ar*e but me. :-|

I've got a recorded delivery letter to pick up from the Royal Mail Delivery Office tomorrow morning. I won't know what the nature of the letter is until then, but I'm guessing this is my invite to the next Regulatory Committee Meeting (RC) scheduled for the 4th of March 2011.

I'll let everyone know tomorrow night if it's game on.

Btw, we already have a website set up especially for the occasion.

:wink:

If Frank Smith was any good at dealing with the public he'd still be a real frontline cop.

If Cllr Keir was any good at dealing with the public he'd still prefer to be driving a bus. Cllr Keir is a despicable odious power crazed councillor because he needs to be so he doesn't have to do real work to earn his living. Better to be a part time with a councillor expense account.

Remember guys, this bus driver is shaping our trade. You want a licence but can't get one? It's cos this bus driver is doing his employers bidding.

And who is his employer? Why its City of Edinburgh Council no less. Surprise surprise.

I'd like to see either of these bozos dealing with scum who treat them with contempt, spit at them, who kick their taxis, who attack them through the bulkhead window, who rob them, brandish toy guns and knives at them, who spill greasy food over their floors, who swear at them, who throw their fare at them, who fight in their cab, who refuse to pay them and even those who would perform sexual acts in the cab.

All without the protection of the cops and council who, when an incident arises, will take the uncorroborated word of the scum over that of the taxi driver just going about his business.

All claimed to be in the public protection of course., when the truth is that councillors like Keir can only enhance their status by putting others down. Aided and abetted by the stepford councillors on the committee who trot out the party line in the hope that they also can achieve Keir's status and do exactly what he does.

This is all bollocks. It has to change. There being no attempt by the trade and the numpties on this forum, we're having a tilt at it.

We need real justice for our drivers. Not the officials intimidation and Kangaroo court we have in fascist Edinburgh.

BTW I related the tale of Skull's call to the committee to the wife of a well respected commercial lawyer and she was horrified that this council conducts itself as it does.

I've spoken to many people about taxi affairs and the restriction of licences. I've never had an adverse comment, always a reaction of disgust and many offers of advice to help.

We're not wrong. And if we had a trade that wasn't dependent on the vested interest that restriction brings, then it too would be taking the council on about all of the unfarness and injustice perpetrated on it.

Of course the council realises this. It needs the "sword of Damocles" that is restriction to keep its vice like control over the trade.

And this is pecisely what sationtone wants to deliver to Dundee's drivers.

She is qualified how exactly? Did you also get the qualified opinion of the butcher, the baker and the candlestick maker whilst you were at it? :roll:
I ran it by our next door neighbours' cat. There was no comment.

whatever anyone thinks of skulls opinions its simply not right that the council are allowed to take away your livelihood in this way. i've been involved in an extremely minor incident and been appalled at the way i was treated. for gods sake, we all commit minor traffic indiscretions every day, anyone who doesn't is just a liar in my opinion. maybe he should have reacted in a different way, i did and i ended up with my fingers rapped, but thats skulls perogative and i'ts obvious he is very happy to do so. i for one wish him the best of luck.

And that for me is the important point here.
If we let a council stuff someone because we don't like them or what they stand for, sooner or later they will stuff someone we do like. It could be any of us next.

    When the Nazis came for the communists,
    I remained silent;
    I was not a communist.

    When they locked up the social democrats,
    I remained silent;
    I was not a social democrat.

    When they came for the trade unionists,
    I did not speak out;
    I was not a trade unionist.

    When they came for the Jews,
    I remained silent;
    I wasn't a Jew.

    When they came for me,
    there was no one left to speak out.

    Pastor Martin Niemöller

No matter who or why I'd never want to see any one possibly lose their job or ability to work through no fault of their own. Different if someone had been recklessly driving or causing offence to customers

Now im sure skull says the alleged complainant never said anything at the time to him but went straight to the official channels. Complainant did nothing wrong here in my opinion. Had skull upset them in some way then he may have thought "right stuff continuing with him, I'm gonna go straight to the head honcho to get this dealt with", much like if you were in a store and the 16 yr old girl that doesn't care about her job giving you an apology that had no substance to it you deal straight to her supervisor to get the result you want

This appears to be shagging complainant did.

Cab office asked skull to come in to deal with it. But skull stamps his feet and petulantly had a sulk. Had it been myself and I felt I had done no wrong then id be straight in to defend myself.

Had I been in the wrong then I'm sure I might want to try and hide and hopefully it goes away

Skulls petulance and standfest approach just makes him look even more guilty, whatever the offence may be, IMO

We've all had instances with run ins with our customers but I always try to be professional in my work and demeanor but if I do have someone complaining i usually say "sorry" if im in the wrong but if I feel I'm right I reply "if you have a problem with me and my work, take it up with the council or cab office. i can give you the phone numbers if you want?"

Aye, and you've just highlighted the real nub of all this.

Unless and until you are personally stiffed by these scumbags, you think the system works.

But those who've had their livelihoods taken away, and who never considered it ever would be, know full well that we're spot on.

Our problem is that we can see what is going down. We don't want to be stiffed. We don't want other cabbies stiffed either.
