£17m black taxi order

19/03/2011

Bosses at Manganese Bronze have clinched the company’s biggest-ever order for its iconic black taxis.

The company will supply 1,000 cabs to Azerbaijan in a deal worth £17million.

Details emerged as the firm revealed it cut losses by £1m to £6.3m last year. Boss John Russell is pinning hopes on the firm’s joint venture with Chinese car maker Geely.

It cut jobs at its Coventry plant and started building some taxis in Shanghai in a drive to reduce costs.

More like bouncing all over the place with 1,000 black cabs on the inferior roads of Azerbaijan

They have little chance of bouncing back. They admit losses of 6.3 mill last year and say that is a million down on the previous year of 7.3 mill. What will be the profut margin on this 17 mill order, 20% only gives them 3.4 mill. They need 40% profit to break even, and the Chinese need a 51% slice of that.

It works out at £17,000 per car. Maybe some of you guys should get over there and buy one and ship it back here. You could save yourselves a small fortune.

Shipping would be around £1000. Import duty is 10% so say £1700 and VAT would be 20% of the price + duty, £3740. a total of £23440.

I think if they've cut the price they'll have cut whatever luxuries they can

I doubt it if they want to keep the costs down. Another question is what side will the steering wheel be if you were to import it from Azerbaijan?

LTI is bouncing back big time in London.

For £33K you now get the top model with the recent modifications. Drivers who have bought the '10' and '60' regs seem very happy with their purchases.

With the 'new' Euro 5 Vito coming out at a staggering £41K, I can see KPM outpricing themselves from the market, even more so if someone like Allied Direct and their E7 gain entry to the market.

If I sell my current Vito when it's 2 years old, and get £24K ish for it, I'll be buying a TX with no loan.

Back to real doors. \:D/
