GBC could they not put a wide yellow band around the centre of the cabs as well as the yellow plates the band could be the same sticky stuff used for lettering
The information as to what cab is what could be put on all web sits and information literature

If I understand this correctly, it's not the cab that's zoned - it's the driver.
The cab can be used by any licenced driver in any zone, provided he has a yellow badge valid for that zone or a green badge valid in all zones.
Some cabs are used in different zones by different drivers so whatever is used must be changed when the driver changes.

Have I got this right?

Yes.

The Taxi is licensed for use anywhere in London, by Transport For London.

As you say, some GBC's share with YBC's !

But . . . . from whatever date onwards, the driver will have to make the huge effort to take one (two?) small identifiers with him when he leaves the cab if he / she is sharing.

If, like me and the majority of London drivers, you own your own cab and you're the only driver (Utopia according to some) then you'll pop the cards in the plastic sleeves and leave them in place.

Should be simple enough. 8-[

Good on the club for getting this pushed through. =D>

I agree.

Despite the constant barracking, I think Grant has made the club a lot more attractive to me and many other drivers who are under 83, and are a now quite a viable alternative to the other three trade bodies if they don't tickle your fancy.

It's not for the punter, the identifiers are for enforcement, so the guy who is sitting on Richmond Station will see that the taxi in front actualy belongs to Bexley, and can then in his own words politely tell him to naff off back to Bexley.

Won't this just mean arguments between cabbies?

Probably.

But the law breaking ones will hopefully get sick of the grief.

Its difficult to prove if a cab on the move is up to no good, they might be collecting a pre-booked job, but an out of sector cab blatantly ranking up in front of you is quite easy to spot.

The proposal isn't perfect, but it's a start.

Not in huge numbers, but it does go on.

I knew a Fireman a few years ago who was licensed for Barking and Dagenham, but he worked at Euston Fire Station in Central London, he would quite happily admit his first port of call was Euston Station in the morning.

Badge and Bill checks are hardly ever carried out, so the chances of being caught is very small.

The out of sector YBC taxis are a miniscule problem compared to the touting Minicab problem, but as tesco says, every little helps.
