Seen this topic on the other scottish forum, after the recent diversion of most taxi and private hire companies to advanced GPRS and MMS technology which has the lead to the future market. All Edinburgh compaines now use this sort of systems (either cordic or mercury) except the well known out fashioned Edinburgh city private hire still use Auriga evocab system with the very old data units, very cheap to run, very easy to feed punters, and most importantly no way to trace feeding practices and controllers favorings.

i know for the fact the recent changes to the central systems has increased the work by the organised dispatching and allocation of jobs around the city, also still there alot of hidden tips and advantages when using the new system
as i keep learning every day from using the cordic. the easy mobility of the unit and size of it make it more secure and well hidden in the car. the only draw back is the screen size and the use of the keyboard for txt'g but still big enough compared with other units in other companies.

Although with cordic you can not fool the system and both the drivers and controllers have no way to malpractice the system. i think cordic is system for the future with all companies now allow the online booking and mobile phone applications for booking which will need no one to answer calls and log jobs to the computers in the office. my own expreience with auriga been very bad when considering the complexity of loging jobs, follow drivers for jobs, tracing jobs and looking for addresses. i can not count the number of auriga system crashes, and software faults where job not been dispatched on time, customer not getting ring back and drivers are not able to accept work during weekends.

a very good example is the evocab system colky's private hire one, as a friend driver told me about the instability of their system, where they had to switch the call back off during the weekend to reduce the amount of data through their system which had crashed many times during busy times (image you go 2 in the morning to get ur passenger from the high rises), and drivers were forced either to wait or do the bad practice of private hires.

that is how they loading their bank accounts with cash.

anyway, back to the main point, i do now prefer the cordic system where i can move around and browse work in the city (need to have mains charger).

i will be looking to other drivers views, on this topic, or even the technical advantages of both systems.

taaa, tara

Anyone who use Mercury will lose business on a grand scale. Them jokers are the epitomie of crap. We are only on their doorstep but they point blank refuse to help.

Their PDA's are basically crap and aren't fit for use. We've got 32 old PDA's sat in the office doing nothing because they refuse to connect to the system or they have given up working..

If I was going down the data route I'd go with Bills mob at Datamaster.
