I dont work full time on the taxis anymore, but do work occasionally here and there. But it seems Dundee council now have a two tier badge system.
I also keep my badge as a backup if i lost the job i have, but now according to this letter i got i would have to wait a week to be issued with the badge i have paid for..

TAXI DRIVERS LICENSE-RENEWAL

I write to advise you that the undernoted condition is now attached to all Taxi Driver Licences.

"25. The license and badge shall be retained in the custody of the licensing authority during any period(s) of time when the license holder is not employed as a taxi driver. It shall be the responsibillity of the license holder to notify the licensing author driving a taxi and,in accordanceity of the name(s) of the operator(s) for whom he is driving for the time being and also of any change in the identity thereof. This information must be provided in the application form for the grant or renewal of the license and thereafter within seven days of any change as outlined above. If the driver ceases to be so employed,he shall be obliged to return the license and badge to the licensing authority within seven days, whereupon it shall be reissued upon notification of the licensing authority of his recommencing employment as a taxi driver."

You indicated on your renewal form that you are not currently driving a taxi and,in accordance with the condition,i have retained the license here.

If your status changes you should advise me in writing of the date of the change and the name of the Taxi License holder you are to drive.

this was discussed at the june meeting and thankfully is being brought into practice, the tax dodging part timers and dole dossers are now about to disapear,to get your badge you will have to name the op you are driving for, this info will be cross checked by the relevant authorities(inland revenue/social security)some ops think there wil be no checks even though a recent publicised court case of a woman claiming to be single was sentanced to 12 months for £30000 benefit fraud, she was only caught because her husband applied for a taxi badge and put her adress down on the form as his home adress ,no checks?

Fair enough Dundee Wav, but what about the tax paying part timers, how can i let the council know who i am driving for if i dont know myself,i phone up the office and get any car that is available, thats going to stop and the the operators wont have a driver then.
What happens if the regular car you are driving is off the road or you change cars, are the drivers going to write to the council to tell them about the change, dont think so.
I f i lost my job on a Friday it would then be at least 9 days before i could work a taxi according to this letter.
How should the council be allowed to dictate when i work or not.I am self employed on the taxis so should be able to work when i choose.

once a white plate if you drive a regular cab and it goes off the road and you drive another cab without informing the council you will still apear on the regular ops tax returns,im sure there are lots of ops who wouldn,t mind paying tax for having a driver while the driver is driving another cab

 So how does that get rid of the tax dodgers if an op is paying tax for a driver they dont have.
I can get a car for a night, tell the council i am back driving a cab,get my badge issued and then drive other cars but the original op will pay my tax.. :?

once a white plate i was being sarcastic, ops dont like paying their own tax ,paying tax on a non existent driver is not going to happen, drivers will have to inform the council of every cab they drive regardless of how long they drive it,i could see a few drivers getting bined over this especialy from ops who have 3/4 drivers on their cabs

Dundee Wav i was being pedantic, but quickly you can see the problems with this, drivers will move about, the ops will then have to prove drivers arent driving cars they are registered to.

Like i said i can register with the council get my badge and then please myself, how are the council going to monitor what i am doing.

Not looking as such for a way round this, its more a case of i have paid for my badge so i would like to work a shift now and then when i want on a whim rather than having to apply for MY badge that has been granted but is retained by the council.

Ps dont owe the tax man a penny ,but i was overpaid £36 tax credits and am being hounded for that

once a white plate i think you will find it commonplace for ops who have parted ways with their driver to phone the council themselves just to make sure he doesn,t leave him in the shxt,as for the council proving which car you drive ,if you are working through an office your pin number and car reg number will already be stored,if you are working the streets you will be using the handfull of taxi ranks in the centre all of which are covered with cctv cameras,if you do leave an op in the shxt all he has to do is tell the council which shifts you do and what rank you sit on plus the reg of the cab you are really driving and all will be sorted

Calm down ffs

So why do the council have to keep your badge when all these things are already in place.

I was until last year a full time driver for over 15 years i can honestly say i never ripped off or left any operator in the s*it,ran my own car and had drivers myself.

And as for pin numbers it has already been stated on here that drivers use others pin numbers.

If you read my post i said i drive occasionaly and could get a car for 1 night to be issued with my badge then drive when i felt like it.

You are reading far to much into this, all i am saying is that i have paid for a taxi badge and would like to drive when i want without having to apply for my badge that has been granted but retained by the council and waiting at least a week, whats wrong with that. ](*,)
