Taxi driver with no insurance caught out by undercover cop

A private hire driver who picked up an undercover police officer has been fined after it emerged he had no licence to pick up passengers or insurance.

Mohammed Rangzaib, 44, of Brompton Street in Glodwick, Oldham, picked up the plain clothed cop last year without a prior booking.

Subsequent checks revealed he had no public hire insurance and was not authorised to pick up passengers.

Rangzaib failed to attend at Oldham Magistrates Court and was fined £2,025 in his absence. He was also ordered to pay £500 costs and six points were added to his licence.

Councillor Jean Stretton said: “This is one of several cases brought as the council increases its enforcement against private hire drivers who think it acceptable to pick up fares which haven’t been booked, therefore invalidating their insurance.

“It is illegal and we will continue to conduct these operations until drivers get the message.”

If he had turned up I would guess his fine wouldn't have been more than £500.

£2,525.00 to pay in total!!

I doubt if that will be paid.

And they forgot the victim surcharge.

I bet when they search for him on the PNC when he's not paid it what's betting he's gone back to Pakistan?
