This guidance note sets out the Department for Transport's view of what is, and what is not, a private hire vehicle. It is designed to assist local licensing authorities in making licensing decisions and provide transport service providers with some clarity about whether they need to be licensed as private hire.

DfT Guidance on what exactly is a 'Private Hire Vehicle'

I think it's worth highlighting what the Minister said about this new guidance. [-(

Early days, but if the sentiments indicated there are mirrored when the new act comes in, then chaps we can say a firm farewell to section 16. Image

As will all the others.....recruits dear boy...recruits.

Personally, the licensed trade deserves everything it gets....one fine day we'll all be working for the likes of DELTA, Blueline and the rest....because the trade dont give a sh*t.

We should ALL, HC and PH, be lobbying for restricted numbers in both trades.

How can you restrict private companies? PH are not a public service although they do serve the public. There should only be one tier for taxis, mixed fleets, high driver standards and higher than average vehicle standards. I know people will ask how we decide who has to drive WAVs and unfortunately that will be down to %. If there are no/insufficient WAVs in an area then that will be the only licence available. They could perhaps only licence estate vehicles as saloon taxis. I say this, not just cos I have an estate vehicle, because some of the saloons I've seen as ph couldn't get a weeks shopping in them let alone suitcases or a folded wheelchair
