Ayr de-restricted a while ago.

I bought my Cab just over a year ago. All I needed to do this, apart from the actual buying of the Cab, was to give SAC about £500 to have the machine Tested and Plated and just a little less than £200 each year for Testing and Plating thereafter. No Vehicles can be over 10years old and if it's off the Road, because of damage of any kind, it needs to resit its Test.

The more seasoned drivers are constantly complaining about the increased number of Hackneys and PHs on the roads. Reducing the earning potential of each Vehicle.

Neither system is perfect, both have their advantages and disadvantages.

There are mo advantages to taxi drivers in a restricted system.

It denies them their right to drive their own vehicle unfettered by crazy, selfish owners. My experience is testament to this.

The adage is true. You don't have to be bright to own a taxi, and its clear there are quite a few who don't deserve to. The numbskull I worked for is one, Dougie Brown is another.

These guys are not fit for purpose.

And it's their mentality which mitigates against our trade, which has brought about its decline.

Fresh blood, each with their own stake in their trade, may just be what we need to change things.

The status quo has delivered failure. End of.

It can't prevail.

The council has worked its own vested interest and handed our trade over to private hire. We should be storming their HQ and demanding they sort it.

But vested interest are still able to freeze 0out initiate and ambition. So they prevail.

That's how sad we've become. We allow the council and vested interests to deny us our rights.

Where else in our economy are people not allowed to at least have the chance to compete?
