Different altogether, can you charge more for a overweight person cause they take up more room,or elderly cause they take a while to get in ?

No, but if a punter rang up a PH firm requesting a vehicle that takes an overweight person, and that PH firm quoted more than for a thin person, I doubt that would be an illegal act.

PH have always been able to charge for the service provided and not just the time & distance covered, if you'd like to then drive one

I would start it when the ramps get put out.

And I would agree with you.

But sadly, [they say] you have to load the wheelchair passenger [you are working] and put the ramps away [you are working] before you can put your meter on.

Strange that this point has never been tested in court from the point of view of the driver's rights to be paid for working.

BC, that was my reading of the Rules, also.

I do think that it is somewhat unfair on those of us that drive WAVs, but then all our local Hackneys are required to be WAV Adapted.

I just think it's unfair to expect people, in any job, to work for nowt.

time is money, but how many wheelchair jobs does the average WAV hack do after having to spend £25K+? the other way of looking at is that maybe the able-bodied passengers are subsidising the extra cost of a wheelchair job, and given that someone in a wheelchair could be getting several benefits INCLUDING mobility, why shouldnt the wheelchair user pay the extra?..........

I wasn't missing the point at all. I too don't charge people because they are slow to get into my vehicle. You asked how ph can do this and it's quite simply because they are a private company that charge on time and distance, similar way to hc do with thier meters. I don't charge people if I get caught up in a bit of traffic but the meter in the hc will still be ticking over. You don't hear the disabled lobbying for fair rates and equalities when faced with something like this

Quote:
Concessions:Senior citizens, students, carers and visitors with disabilities

You clearly did mention it, albeit you now say 'how' rather than 'why'
