Surely a longer journey should cost more per mile, as it's harder work. I don't want to drive 30+ miles, it knackers me out. I don't want to encourage the longer journeys. Tell them to get on the Train ffs.

What have you got?

A pedicab?

You want the money or are you supporting the Railways?

I just never understood why someone would do longer trips for less per mile. If I wanted to drive for miles for peanuts then I would go on the buses or drive a lorry. Don't get me wrong, if someone offered me double the metered fare then I might consider it, otherwise I would always turn long journeys down.

The occasional longer run is good for the vehicle and to be fair I'm a little concerned that you get knackered out on a journey of 30 miles but you don't appear to get too knackered if they offer you double the metered rate

Gimme long runs anytime, but not at cut rate. Usual rate is fine by me.
The meter clocks up a damn sight faster at 70 mph than it does at 30.

Well "gusmac" you have the right answer. If it doesn't bring home the Bacon, then the meter rate is too low and you need to get the fares raised.

I think you are getting a little confused.

I think we all agree that going on a long journey is tiring.

We would also agree that most people would work harder given the right incentive.

My old Metrocab gets enough of a run on it's 20 mile journey from Kiddy to Brum every morning thanks. If someone wants to go outside of the prescribed distance then they should expect to pay more than the metered fare or be turned away.

You're damn right I'm confused, but I'm confused about what you consider a long journey  I might I ask you what you consider a fair hourly wage to be is? If I was to work out how much to charge somebody on a long job the first thing I do is work out how many hours it will take and then add the expenses

Please refer to my last post and actually read it this time.

If someone wants to be taken outside of the prescribed distance then they should be charged more than the meter would allow.

I did read it and I read the one before it which is why I asked what you considered a long journey is. I fail to see why somebody should be charged more because they are going outside the prescribed distance, especially as that prescribed distant was created so many years ago.

Toots, Driving longer distances is tiring and a pain.

If I can charge more for them then I will.

I would rather do the 2 mile journeys for six or seven quid a piece.

If someone wants to go outside of Brum, I can charge more and I will, because I really don't want to do it.

the easiest way to tell someone to FOOOK OFF is to over quote the job.

Over quoting to the point where I would be happy to take them seems the most sensible option.

Therefore, I might be knackered on a long drive, but I would be well compensated for it.

I wouldn't be less knackered for more money as you seemed to be suggesting.

Is there anything else I need to explain.

This is like being married ffs.

That's all well and good but all I asked was how long is a long journey and I have no idea what it's like being married

I can hardly believe that a trade that is hit so heavily by the recession could indulge in a debate about whether or not they would be happy to accept fares based on how far they are travelling. What on earth is going on. Is it just that all taxi drivers in Brum do not need to earn money. I know I need to. : (
