you miss the point....if he's he he doesnt currently need an operators license....but because of his new technology....by his own admission and the suggestion of the LC he soon will.

I didn't miss the point at all I'm just suggesting that he wouldn't have got the work if he didn't pay for it so he may not have as much work as he does. You have to weigh the pros and cons and have you acquired a stutter?

The point seemingly escaping them is the fact that how a job is received is of no consequence whatsoever, the call must still be received via a PC or telephone.

I think it's the done thing to say technology has changed and the trade needs to change to get the benefits of these improvement.

But as you allude to, it's all bollocks. A person rings/e-mails/visits an office for a taxi/PH, and a taxi/PH is sent to them.

What technological advances will ever change that, other than maybe driver less vehicles.

I think this is used to support the idea that a private hire operator doesn't need to be based in several places, they could indeed just have one national call centre to take all work. I can think of a couple of operators that will benefit from this

Indeed, but the basics are still there.

A punters books a taxi/PH and a taxi/PH is dispatched.

All these aps and internet booking whizz kids, that come on here from time to time, are in the trade for minutes, as the basics will never change no matter what.

=D>

I dont question the usefulness of GPS, email, iphone apps etc.

But as you state and I agree with, someone somewhere along the line has to accept the booking.....they are currently licensed or should be....in effect it is b*llocks to say technology has actually changed the licensing concept.

Ph with a opt license, pay for work lol your must joking. :D

Was on a circuit for 20 yrs plus ,and I paid a dues / a fee to a company so that a computer dishes out work, and just sit around a long time wait for a job.

So I change my way of getting work, in the last 6yrs
You are all self employ.

Still the same rules license to accept bookings or make provisions

If it was not for the latest technology and adapt today's markets, I probably be still on a circuit,.

it would be hard to work from land lines

but if i was a hack.
you don't need a opt license to accept bookings.
as its for only accepting booking for a private hire vehicles

so the technology has change the way for the hack to plying for hire (ops! wrong wording) out side his area, in my eyes it has , if you think about

The PH not bound to the limits of old fashion radio frequency to accept a job,

It has change the way how taxis and operators , operate . Which has upset the Industry

In the same way a motor car replaced the limits of a horse.

I was invited to a members AGM today.

Amongst the many things mentioned, and despite a little bit from myself (they were so polite they didnt throw things at me), they advised their members about a new app the association were considering for each member.

The app is purely for HC's, and whilst I would suugest it doesnt actually affect licensing law, nor the fact technology hasnt actually changed jack sh*t for the HC trade in terms of how we do the job......the app will, if supported by this particular associations members go a very long way towards taking back work the HC trade has lost.

It shows a couple of things to me; firstly, the HC trade isnt the dinasaur some would like people to believe it is.....there are people in the trade who are actually looking beyond the next fare.

secondly, the fact a taxi is acceping a job via an iphone or app doesnt actually mean the legislation is wrong.
