I would advise people to take special note of what is happening in Manchester in respect of Marshals because your Council could very well be the next Manchester.

In York we have cctv above every taxi rank, but as we all know that don't work, I spotted the other night at one certain city rank, at the weekend, same as last wekend, the same shifty looking persons hovering about, one with a flat cap and the other with a woolly hat on, coppers in plain clothes, with hand held radios, ready to pounce on the yobs who cause problems at the rank, oh, the name of the rank to which we call it, "Muggers Alley"

Night-time fares, by comparison

Just goes to show you don't own a cab you fackin idiot. Who the fack do u think is going to pay for this increase you moron? You think we will pay. We'll pass the increase on to you trackers. The rent your paying now will increase by at least 25 pounds a week, contemplate that, idiot.

Every post you have ever made on this forun has been one of stupidity, what a fool you are? From the first time you posted the chit about Liverpool license holders to this fackin nonsence. Get a life you dopey [edited by admin]. Most day and night drivers couldn't give a chit about marshals. Where have u been for the last 30 years?

JD

I think JD you have obviously lost the plot.
When one resorts to abuse as you have done without answering the point I am making it doesn't deserve any response.
My point was that fares in LONDON and Manchester are NOT comparable.
I have worked with and without Marshals and I found it better to work with them and so did the others.
The council have done a survey and got a positive response from drivers, punters and the police. It is on this basis that they have gone for the Marshals all year round.
As for who will pay for it ?
Of course the punters will pay for it in the fare increase.
okay ?
As for whether or not i own a cab I think that you should worry about the fact that you are NOT even a driver.

I thought the original post from JD was extremely harsh.

I think (from memory) ive disagreed with CB on a few occasions, however, this has never deteriorated into a slangling match.

We had "marshalls" in my area for two weekends last summer, the cost to the crime prevention scheme was £9k. On one rank they were good, on another they were rubbish.

The end result of marshalls is that the customers (they pay our wages) feel safer. If the local authority and the clubs aint going to pay for them, then ultimately it must be the taxi user, and it would follow that it is only fair that the night time taxi user should pay.

Although I can but wonder how many extra coppers on the streets the amounts suggested for manchester would provide. eusasmiles.zip as opposed to doormen.

Perhaps when the pub and clubs come under the remit of licensing, the bill will be paid for by those that sell the alcohol that usually creates the problem.

In essence that is an option which every cab driver in the country should be made aware. In my humble opinion, the only reason this was accepted in Manchester is because the probable alternative migth have been the complete removal quantity controls. That was a gamble the TOA were not prepared to take.

perhaps JD, but didnt the Manchester Trade receive a Brucie Bonus on their night time tariff to make up for the extra costs?

I'm sure they tried a taxi marshaling scheme in Glasgow a number of years back, it never caught on, a mean city and all that.

If a taxi Marshalling scheme is required to keep the peace on city centre taxi ranks then surely this infers that public order offences are happening, isn't that the job of the police to control?
