Does it matter? Jasbars got a decent argument, but sadly, he's gone beyond pointing out views and chosen the avenue of cheap insults.......whilst he in my view is right, he's just lost the argument......ffs, he's one of the more intelligent gents on here too :-|

Agreed.
Greed and stupidity v public safety. It's a slam dunk.
The insults just hurt his credibility.

Whooooooooooaaaaaaa Camel...on the one hand Its "Greed and Stupidity"...then its "The Insults just hurts his credibility"

That's a tad Contradictory :?

Unless the first job is as a mattress tester....

I'd say those in the job need to earn a living.....like with anything, when something is easy to obtain it is in fact worthless, and therefore not of consequence when lost, this could be a pair of tweasers boght from the spar, or a license obtained when your own 'proper' job pays your bills.

The Difference is that under your way of doing things the Cabbie or PH couldn't work 12 hours as a cabby..but the moonlighter could have worked hard for 12 hours and then struggled through tiredness to work a further 8 hours as a cabbie or PH driver...The guys a potentially tired Wreck at the beginning of his shift but a Tacho cant stop that from happening.

Sorry........Typo error..should have read...

Remind me again..who are you driving for right now?

And yes it matters, I think this more about a dislike of a specific PH company or driver than it is about a cause celebre..for if it had a been a cause we would have heard about it long before now.

His motives are unimportant, what he says is correct. And we have been hearing this for a number of years...you just haven't been listening.

Your right.........but I can only take so much of some before it wears a little bit thin and at that point I read less from some authors. But I guess we are all guilty of that to a greater or lesser extent.

I'm not denying Jasbar has a point, he's entitled to his views. and it's good that he feels so strongly about it and that he has sense of commitment to his cause. But it does not mean we all have to agree with it or that It's right.

Greed and Stupidity isn't an insult, it's a fact. But you take it as one if you want.
What do you call doing a 21 hour shift, with the second half of it on Scotland's most notorious road?

A tacho won't stop either, if there aren't any fitted. BTW, I don't think anyone should be driving a cab after doing another job.
My point is tired is tired, regardless of how it came about.

At the end of the day, what we think isn't important.
It doesn't look good to the public at large or the powers that can change it.
It will only take one high profile incident and action will be taken, regardless of what any of us think

Do you think a Tachograph would have stopped them just like It does not stop determined lorry drivers hell bent on breaking the rules, I'd doubt it.

A roads a road....The Dangers is the fast and feckless drivers on that road and I'm sure not many of those Accidents were tiredness related but more down to general bad driving. If there really is a Problematic, above average death/accident road then that's another Politically unacceptable issue and instead of ostracising the Taxi/PH trade they may well be better looking at how to improve and make the actual road safer for all it's users.

I'd just about guarantee he'd have been grassed up and stopped before he got back

That's just ducking the issue. Yes the road needs improving but that's not the point.
If it had been London instead of Wick, it would have still been greedy and stupid.

I never said it Wasn't Greedy and stupid, but I think your OTT cure is a step to far. Surely the guys employer should have had the nouse to have stopped him, failing that, be given a stern reprimand by the police for allowing such recklessness when or if it came to their attention. but A tacho for all...nahh, stuff that idea.

From what I gather, his PH company gave him the job, knowing full well how long he'd been on shift.
BTW, like most of us, he is his own employer.

Then both he and His PH company should be given a Stern talking to by the Police for being proved so reckless, possibly the council should review if he's fit for purpose as well...but a Tacho........oh no! #-o

As the law stands, he'd be in more trouble if one of his brake light bulbs had blown.
A stern talking to? Both could cheerfully ignore the police and their advice. Fact is neither he nor his company actually broke any law.

Yes CC you may well be right. But we're not dealing with reasonable people who deserve respect.

For example, Bloodnock ignored the point that it could be his family wiped out and how he would feel about that. He couldn't get past his own selfish outlook. Is it any wonder that frustration creeps in when dealing with the likes of him?

And he also ignored the point that if he operated safely, as he says he does, then why would putting a tacho in his car have any effect on him.

The reason the language becomes so rich is because there are those on this forum who simply ignore the argument and just spew out their own greedy selfish interest.

It is breathtaking that Bloodnock and his ilk think that under any circumstances a guy doing any 21 hour shift then driving on what is renowned as an already dangerous road, is OK. Absolutely incredible. And if a tacho helped prevent misery for even one family, then wouldn't their introduction have some merit?

So if I have shown utter contempt for this individual it is not "losing" the argument, that is already won, it's simply frustration that I have to depend on a trade for my livelihood that seems incapable of conducting itself with any reasonable dignity and sense of what is right and proper.

What is clear is that everyone knows who I am. And who you are for that matter. We hold our views and stand by them. We may disagree but at least our views are held openly and honestly.

The bloodknocks of this world, and the others who can't bring themselves to identify with their rants, do not deserve our respect.

Allowing others to be put at risk because a PH company conducts itself with greedy and dangerous practices which bleed drivers dry, and force them to work unsafe long hours and still refuse to consider one mechanism that would protect us all, doesn't strike me as being the conduct of someone who should be allowed to work in our trade.

Of course if Bloodknock's ID was revealed, perhaps he's well aware that the authorities would be looking at him and those like him.

Says it all really.

I am Quiet happy to have my family driving on our British roads, And I,m relatively happy about our current levels of road safety, Im sure things could be done to Improve it further but PH or Hackney
Tachograph fitment is not the solution.

I think your loathing for anything PH is impairing your better judgment, you despise PH for having taken over so much of your previous work. your blaming PH for all your current woes and because of that you are trying to hit back at PH in the only you can by trying to get the the Poltician's to curtail the amount of work they do by means of having to fit a Tachograph,

Your also bright enough to realise that Tacho's would hit PH harder than they do Hacks, but even that line of thinking is flawed because a lot of Hacks still need to get to where they ply their trade from each morning and return home after their shift is done, and If they are a simple one man band like a lot are they could well be losing an hour of their permitted driving day just getting to and from their preferred ranks or haunts.

One more thing, If you cannot post without fear of receiving a critical or differing response and then further unable to control your emotions and natural urge to hurl abuse at anyone who you think has had the audacity to disagree with you then you would be well advised post less on such a subject that you knew full well would draw some criticism.

By all means air your views and and send off your gripe letters to whoever you so wish, but please, don't expect us all to be as enthused by it as you are.

As for the authoritys, Im sure they are more concerned about you than they are be about me and probably are.
