It was even funnier listening to some tw@t on radio 5 yesterday claiming the rail improvements had been because of privatisation......in the belief Branson and Co actually paid for nice stations

So everyone in Kent, Sussex, Dorset, Surrey and Hampshire vote Tory? :?

Didn't Brendan Barber live out that way? I don't suspect he votes Tory.

Remind me where the Tolpuddle Martyrs hailed from?

Interesting that you include Bob Crow in your Tory scum definition, as he is very much against the increases.

How times change.

Maybe not but find a non Tory MP in that area it is in the main Tory heartland with a few Lib Dems slung in Brighton of course has a Green, so the point is valid, my sympathies to decent people suffering from this Tory infestation if they didnt vote for them but for those that did GOOD suffer you scum :D :D

Can't wait to see First Great Western go belly up on the West Coast Mainline just like National Express did on the East Coast line.

There was nothing wrong with Bransons bid it gave a no fare increase and no jobs cuts pledge.

First Great Western have bid way over the odds with a reassurance of fare increases and job losses, you just couldn't make it up.

I wonder who made a packet of money then?

I agree first group will either stitch the government up as they did with the great western franchise by making sure theres lots of loopholes in the smallprint to get out of paying the franchise fees or they will supply a worse service at higher price.

The trouble is Branson bid on Quality and not price and as we all know when your bidding for a contract no matter what it says in the reams of instructions its always the price that wins the second best price never wins even if they offer a better quality of service

I don't think thats the last we've seen of Branson he has had his eye on the East coast franchise for a long time but at the moment it is performing well and generating lots of revenue for the government so they are not in any hurry to put it out to tender but I bet Branson will bid when it does become available

TT's first post says he thinks all train user's are Tories....interesting "train" of thought, also discriminatory and demeaning to suggest Labour supporters dont (or cant) use the rail network...

nice on Trotto!

and today Branson has announced a new domestic route London to Manchester to compete with his lost franchise. Interesting timing I wonder if this was plan B all along if he lost he would make it harder for the winner to make it pay

Quote:
Virgin's new departure from London to Manchester will be a plane, not a train. A week after Sir Richard Branson railed against losing the franchise on the West Coast mainline to FirstGroup, his long-haul airline has launched another venture into short-haul flying.

From Easter Sunday next year, Virgin Atlantic will offer three services a day, each way, between Heathrow and Manchester. Return fares start at £95 – £2 less than the lowest fare on British Airways, which has a monopoly on the air route. Virgin Atlantic's chief executive, Steve Ridgway, said: "Our new service will provide strong competition to overly-dominant BA, keep fares low and give consumers a genuine choice of airline to fly to Heathrow and beyond."

should please Trotsy, now ALL of Branson's customers London-Manchester will be rich Tories.....pmsl
