Thats there, shouldnt have any wording of taxi on a ph.Wouldnt get passed here, doesnt make it a taxi though does it ?

through beer goggles in the dark it does

and any PH can/could be in Blackpool from surrounding LA's so your argument "wouldnt get passed HERE" is of no consequence whatsoever

Dont really see it that much, and to be honest the vast majority of ph here do it straight.I dont say it doesnt go on but the majority of people here know what a taxi is.Cant tell you the amount of times there could be a licensed taxi saloon in front of me and people let it go and flag me.Even with beer goggles

Confession time! I drive both hackney and PH. When I'm in the PH and go to the pick up point, house, pub whatever, I announce myself as "taxi for XXXX". I'm sorry, I know i should say "pre booked private hire car for XXX" but i don't.

Afterall i'd guess that 99% of the public aren't even aware there is a difference between a Hack and PH. I know when they call our firm, punters ask for a taxi. If we were to follow the letter of the law, should the operator say "Sorry, but we don't have any taxis. However, I can arrange for a private hire vehicle to collect you instead"?

In other parts of the country there are probably different criteria to be met (often stricter) to become a taxi driver, especially in London, where taxi drivers spend years learning "The Knowledge" to get their badge, I think they've a right to be pi$$ed off, that private hire drivers call themselves taxi drivers, when all the private hire topography test involves is drawing a compass with the 4 points, naming a motorway or three which crosses M25, and what direction is Birmingham from London etc...

They dont even do the top test its totally corrupted the proprietors test their own driver FFS

You may well be right but I bet that's what I'd get called too if I did announce myself as "pre booked private hire car for XXX". Whose gonna be the first to try it?

You could just say your cars here, say ""hello mrs x, it's acme cars". Driving a taxi and driving ph is different kind of work. If you're a proper executive company, you'll say it's "acme executives".

i had a taxi 5 years ago iv got a ph now, i sold the taxi plate cause a was not well and had to stay off for a year i got good money for the plate and i had the plate for 30 years, i can't see much difference in taxi's and PH's now i suppose having a taxi gives you a bit more presence on the road. where i'm at Wishaw north lanarkshire we don't really bother about PH and taxis we class our self's all as TAXIS and a taxi is called a general and a private hire is called, a private.

what percentage of passenger journeys are rang for (when a HC is not needed) as against flags and rank? (obviously a HC with no base is 100% reliant on the rank+flags)
