No actually there is tons of them up here they round it to the nearest number so it is 1.6 and the majority o taxis up here is 1.6 octys :P

Our council refused to plate a car because it was 8cc below the stated capacity allowed.

perhaps you should ask your council to come out of the dark ages???
the Superb has more rear leg room than an s class Merc, the 1.6 tdi has the same power output as the 1.9tdi, but is quieter due to the common rail

I think most cars are upping the MPG, theyve had to, the previous model 1600cc tdci focus 90PS was good for 65mpg average

maybe a smart car will, but not anything we can use, 15 years ago my Mondeo Td got 50mpg, my Maestro Td got over 55mpg and my Sierra 1800td got 45mpg, we still dont get much more today

unlikely

manufacturers prefer increased BHP to increased MPG, and falling fuel sales mean falling income for HMG (between january and sept 2011 fuel sales fell by 15 BILLION litres), if they dont get it off fuel they will have to make it up elsewhere, but vat and fuel duty wont fall, and probably increase, fuel will dip/rise/dip but overall it will only ever rise, till we run out of oil
