Why do you always assume that if all vehicles became taxis that the ex ph would want to sit on a rank :? I think you'd find the same faces sitting on the ranks and the ex ph doing the phone work as they always have, difference being if they get flagged down they can take it :D

I don't, never have done.

It's the others who are, I'm just saying the world wont end if they did.

I never thought you did I was referring to Towag

Sussex, You didn'y answer the full post and no I'm not deciding for others, just saying it will not work period.....As the laws stand here they would all have to be WAVs ..... No authority, (well this one) is actually duty bound to provide rank space as far as I'm aware..... CC might know about this?......

As the law stands it's a 2 tier system, so who's to say the need for 100% WAVs won't change as well?

Toots, I very much doubt that....

It would probably work in a rural area as most do. You could say I'm PH as well as Hackney as I receive calls by phone etc.... It is convenient for most towns and cities to have taxi ranks or stands by shopping centers and railway stations. It has become tradition and the norm across the world. As there are far more PH operating than Hackney, maybe they can all get together and finance their own large parking space....?? :D

Then those drivers will have to decide for themselves if they want to go WAV taxi or PH saloon.

What they choose should be down to them, not on a piece of law from 165 years ago.

I very much doubt they'll go for a single tier but if they did I very much doubt that they would go for 100% WAVs across the board

If the number of licensed vehicles stay the same, and the number of punters stay the same, what's the problem?

Unless you are saying it will lead to less punters. :?

I'm more than certain when the law is changed it will mean a council will not be able to say some must have WAVs and others saloons. It will be all or nothing.

I'm inclined to agree with you but I don't think they will go for 100% WAVs across the board as some customers (whether you agree or not) can't get into WAVs

TBH I think laws as they stand forbid councils from having different rules/conditions/bylaw for some drivers/owners compared with others.

That's never been tested, other than maybe the Castle-Point judgement, but it can't be legal IMO for a council to discriminate on this basis.

Im saying, why do you think the no of licensed vehicles will not increase ? Cause they will and thats less street/rank work,so it affects me.Which means that the majority of taxis are going to be forced to work for radio circuits who have the biggest share of the work.

It's really quite strange that when it's cold or raining suddenly those who say they can't get into a WAV can suddenly do so....
When they do find that they are easy to get into and out of (Hackney Spec) and ARE the same fare as a saloon they are quite impressed....  =D> #-o

Why should they?

Or is there a secret store of non-owners waiting in some queue somewhere?

If they want one why shouldn't they get one?

If they don't then what's the problem?
