Blimey that looks like Stepto and sons yard
Personally I would have gone for the 2ltr, as I still dont think the 1.6 is capable of obtaining the high mileage that the Octy can

we will see how it gets on so far so good the car is on variable servicing phoned the garage today to get tips on how to keep it in good nick said too not go full throttle within 1st 1500 miles service at all the preset intervals next one is 18,000 use the oil specified within the logbook dont use full throttle while engine is cold (never use it anyways) and should serve you well all the 1.6's up here in octys and superbs are doing fine treat them with respect and they will go a long way so lets put it too the test

yeah the salesman said that the trip computer said i averaged 56.3 mpg yesterday so was quite happy with that but sometimes the trip can be a little bit out will do that tomorrow and see how much its getting on when i filled it up on monday night to the brim said i had 655 miles till empty but as you you say need to let the engine bed in 1st till it gets better

655 miles on 60 ltrs would be 49.63 mpg BUT i doubt you will get 655, if ive had a decent mpg and then fill up mine shows 770+ "left in tank".........i wish!

plus dont forget, we are on winter diesel (i.e. with additives) which get you lower MPG

Did you forget to blank out the reg plate on the latest pictures of your old car? What are you doing with it now? Is it for sale and if so, How much?

yes i traded it in for the superb so not mine anymore, so doesn't matter about blacking the plates out. was having trouble about wherever to keep it or sell it privately cause the dealer didn't give me as much money as i would have hoped. cause i could have just dipped into my savings for the deposit and kept the octy as a back up car or just to run about in when not working and keep some miles off the superb. but that would be another car to tax, MOT, insure, fuel up, do maintenance on, new tires, and yes i have more than enough room for two cars in my drive the wife doesn't drive so what is the point really so just decided to trade it in for the new taxi

Its odd that the new Superb is 500kg (half a tonne) lighter than the smaller Octavia ........

It isn't. I thought that this had been cleared up on the other thread that you put this on. You were not using the same stats for both vehicles. in one you were using kerb weight which is the weight of the vehicle without passengers standing at the kerb. In the other you were using axle weight which is the maximum weight that the car can carry.

BTW, avoid using 6th gear, 5th will give better mpg, 6th makes the engine work to hard, my mondeo is only doing 1800 rpm at 80mph and its too low, go faster and the wind drag cancels out any advantage from using the right rpm (2250 rpm is best in mine)
