No company should be making a profit when the tax payer is propping them up.

There is an easy solution - End all subsidies.

The public can then take it on when the fat cats have gone bust.

PMSL. passenger fares would rise, freight would avoid it even more and lines would be shut, but at least the steam enthusiasts would have new lines to rescue

a bunch of taxi drivers, mainly with 1 car, know how to run a rail network, fecking priceless....

As opposed to a tory ex miner, now thats a contradiction in itself ! lol

what, you think working at a pit meant automatically cow-towing to Labour? youd be surprised chap, no union or political party owned the majority of miners or the 84 strike wouldnt have fell on its arsss

I'm in the RMT taxi branch nowadays, largely due to a shift in views on my part, but mainly because the guys running the branch nowadays are known to me, and are doing an excellent job.

The real point in kicking this off was that the Tory Vermin will now allow CITIZENS to be burnt alive which is inevitable with Private Croooks running the Fire service :D

As for the Railways well their the most expensive overcrowded crap in Europe and of course the PRIVATE COMPANIES MAKE BILLIONS IN PROFIT FOR SUPPLYING A CRAP SERVICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! which means the Directors Branson and the like trouser BILLIONS for supplying shytte and get BILLIONS OF TAX PAYERS SUBSIDY in their pockets fekking crazy

Like Roy i have taken an interest in Railways remember going to New Romney by steam from lONDON, many lines were shut due to lack of foresight including the Great Central from Marylebone which would be invaluable today although sections are being re-opened.

Remember when the railways were Nationalised they were Bankrupt and worn out from 6 years of WAR the Government saved them!!

Nationalised industries SHOULD make a profit to go to the exchequer to help with the NHS Welfare etc. :D

The economics of Keynes =D> =D> =D>

what really surprises me with these economists is why is there a sudden urge to balance the books? Every country runs a deficit and have done since time immortal - especially in times of war - the so called 'good times' effectively bring the deficit down. What we're doing now seems quite mad.

Public transport should be publicy owned, and not expected to make a profit, imo.
The problem seems to be that anything thats pubilicy owned is run very badly.

I don't know what the answer is.

What thatcher did was feck the unions then shift the tax burden from the wealthy to the working class. To give people like you the illusion you are better off.She finished whole communities off, which im sure you know as she finished your job ? The one good thing that the tories are good at is fooling the public, ill give them that. They promise just enough to reel you in,whereas the reality is there for themselves and the top earners in the country. You buy into that by thinking your a little bit better dont you ?

Blackpool, he's not worth getting worked up about.

How do you get a working class sucker to vote Tory for the rest of his days?
Sell him his council house for a knock down price and tell him he's part of the landed classes.

A sad, delusional fool who thinks he's part of the Conservative dream. Really, he's a bigger victim of it than anyone.
