Hi I am thinking of getting one of the above something along the lines of a Fiat Doblo (won't be new) anybody got any advice?

Depending on your views and LA rules on rear loaders, the Citroen Berlingo/Peugeot Partner does make a good cab. I drive a non WAV one full time now but I have driven the WAV version on the fleet and its great. I get 48 mpg which is less than advertised I think but OK ish. Its nimble around town and punters like it especially older "non wheelchar" people with mobility issues. Loading and unloading wheelchairs in the WAV version is dead easy and pretty quick. Luggage space on both WAV and non wave is huge. I've done some airport runs, its 120 to Gatwick from here, and it was fine both for me as driver and for passengers.

On the downside, I understand the PSA 1560 diesel engine does give some problems after about 120000, mainly with the turbo I think.

Hi rear loading, seems the best I would have thought? LA not got a problem with them and would be more useful? 2jobs is that fuel consumption for the diesel?

I have a VW Sharan but not all LA allow them. Best to check what you are allowed.
They are pretty good with diesel and don't fold seats when a wheelchair in car.

Danger danger danger, how do you get your wheelchair passenger out if you get shunted from the rear and the doors won't open?? I've seen it happen down here yet the Council still allow them.

They are a poor mans WAV and shouldn't be allowed on the road as a Hackney Carriage.

Spend that little bit extra and buy a side loader, that way there's always 2 means of egress.

Better than the Rear loader WAV's, I do more wheelchair work than the WAV's round here,

Unless you are required to buy a wav............don't! Firstly, you will be unlikely to pick up much extra work than you already have. Secondly, any work that you do pick up will take far longer to carry out and legally you can't charge for loading and unloading because that would be discriminating against the disabled.

I just wonder if you'd follow the same crap advice you punt to everyone else re rear loading WAVs if you had to buy one.

Listen to the guys who run these things, not the saloon fraternity who will cheerfully spend your dough and let you go broke.
I'd also add don't shell out extra for a 6/7/8 seater unless there are only a few round your way.
It only works for a limited few and when too many bright sparks have the same idea it just won't pay.

What's with the, its discrimination; do not charge loading/unloading time? They want a WAV Taxi that's cost well over the odds of a normal one-then they should pay for the privilege of not having to get out of the wheelchair . Some operators may well waive the extra to get the work, but not many WAV's will respond. I can think of nowhere it directs thou shall not charge the disabled for your services? Have some other stupid do gooder telling us next we should give them half price fares subsidised from our own pocket!

My own disabled customers are only too happy to pay,,,they get a good & proper caring service from start to finnish. Start saying we cannot charge and the poor buggers will be thrown in by drivers ad hoc with much of the safety bypassed.

Same for side loaders , Rural roads... Hard Shoulders are not design to take a break down WAV, Then you get A lorry swipes the vehicle with the wheel chair bound Passenger Still inside , nice bit of mess to clear up

In our drivers handbook, issued by the council it states that the meter is engaged when the wheels start to move and stops when the wheels stop. This means that a disabled passenger pays the same as an able bodied person for the same journey.

I've had two WAVS in the past you fool, both "SIDE LOADERS" with proper restraints. Rear Loading WAVS are a poor mans choice.
