if the drivers are daft enough to allow it then its there own fault. Go and rent a set of balls for a week then stand together and put a stop to it.

Cheaper fares equals more money and work yes it does
Since I knocked up to a pound off all fares over £3.00, my work rate has improved and takings are up 30% above what I normally took, at normal fares, most of the time I can get a return booking from around the corner, but I do not discount after 10 PM

Yea great logic that, why dont we all start discounting on ranks.People could go up and down the ranks bartering for cheapest cab.Thank feck your on your own

We get that here sometimes. Fortunatly the drivers don't usually go cheaper. The further down the rank someone goes, the higher the price gets.

29 to 66 including an undisclosed number of director's proxies in favour, apparently.

You drive a PH therefore you know what every other driver earns? Perhaps you are doing better, but then again perhaps you're one of those that spend a lot of time in the office being extra nice to the ops. I can assure you the guy I mentioned doesn't lie about such things, the only thing I'm more sure of is that you wouldn't call him a liar to his face.

C Cabs didn't do a very good job of keeping their planned price drop quiet. The other company dropped it's start prices by 30p to £2 on T1 and £2.30 on T2 the week before. They have been cheaper (T1-£2.30, £T2-2.6 and no T3) for about 4 years.

And your point is ? Why would they want to keep it quiet, they want publicity.Personally i hope they starve their competition who want everything 8)

Same sort of thing has happened round here. Newbies come along at silly prices and sit around all day and night waiting for the elusive cheap fare to the airport at less than 40p a mile; we keep our customer base and manage to get £1 a mile loaded and empty. We don't have the running costs they do! Why work for nothing?

Takings maybe up by 30% sure enough, but your profit margins has probably went down by a similar percentage or more...

£4.00 fare less £1.00 (25% Discount) = £3.00 gross profit less running Costs @ £1.00 Equals £2.00 Pre Tax Profit.

Thanks to Discounting your now your taking longer to earn that same £3.00 and your Costs have went up by 33% as you are now doing a 1/3rd more work, so that means for every £3.00 of Gross Profit you now make through your Discounting, your running Costs have Risen to £1.25 which leaves you with only £1.75 Pre Tax Profit.

In short your Working longer, Incurring more costs and making Less Nett Profit... :?

Then that makes the profit Margins even less because they'll all be offering discounts but without the possibility of gaining the extra work to offset the loss.

And

That makes me pleased I don't live or work there...

I don't discount, folk can take it or leave it...but usually they don't haggle over a quid or two.

You are wasting your time with him. You know it and I know it but you will never get people like Skippy to see that they are working a lot harder to make any extra profit, if indeed there is any extra profit (not revenue).
