I will be visiting Scotland to attend a wedding in October. As this will be post referendum, will I need my passport to cross the border?

No you don't. In fact there are few border controls between the UK and The Irish Republic.
You may be required to prove your nationality but this need not be with a passport.
Passports are required by some airlines
