hi all
i run a 57 plate 1.9 tdi octavia with 170k 0n the clock, this is my 1st skoda and has been reliable, before this ive had 2 mondeos, 1 was good, 1 not so good.
i know some of you will say that the skoda will go miles yet but i just think that when you start getting toward 200k cars start to cost, and it still has a bit of value at the mo too, i do about 60k year in a rural area so not much short stuff.
i'm not 1 for buying new motors mainly cos i struggle with getting finance , i tend to buy approx 4 years old with 60/70k and run them for a couple of years then replace it, it has worked quite well for me in the past.
the prob is that 4 year old skodas with this sort of mileage seem to be getting ott on price, way more than a mondeo or a mazda 6 for eg , which i quite like, and you get much more for your 5 or 6k.
i've not had a mk4 mondeo or a mazda 6 and just wondered if anyone else was running either of these and could advise me on reliability etc.
many thanks and regards
gaz

When I traded in my 55 plate Octavia, I got 1.5K for it with 237K against a 59 plate superb,
Within half an hour of leaving with the new to me car the octy was sold to a Glasgow PH driver for 2K.

No they can't. It is illegal for people who are declared bankrupt to apply for credit over £500 and others on such things as IVA's can't get credit over £500 without the permission of the IVA manager.

Correction. It is illegal to apply for a loan of over £500 without telling the lender you are bankrupt.

thanks you

also, normally, a BR is discharged automatically after 1 year but may get an early discharge after 6 months

the obvious thing to do is get the car before going bankrupt, then it cant be seized as its a tool of the trade

Providing you use personal finance and not HP. With HP the car will be taken by the HP company. With personal finance you get a free car because the finance will be part of the bankruptcy.

The HP company may decline to repossess a car if its been a taxi or the equity in it is low, just as low equity in a property means that wont get snatched...

In fact, a car that has no HP on it is more liable to seizure by the Insolvency service, one with HP on its is of little interest to them

If the HP company know that they are not going to get any more payments I would guarantee that they will have the car regardless.

hi all, thanks for the info about the cars, guess I know it makes more sense to stick with skoda/vag stuff really, not really sure where all the rest of it came from, as I am not bankrupt, have had some bad credit, ccj's n stuff, can get credit with people like fowlers etc, but don't wanna go down that road.
I use a small local finance company who I have dealt with for years, but can only get about 3k in 1 go, so rests down to me, its a personal loan I guess, but he'll secure it on the car if I ask him to, just in case things ever go pear shaped, so no 1 running mk4 mondeos or mazda 6's then?
