Your boss is talking [edited by admin] nidge. it backs up the work at whatever intervals you set it to. Ours is set for every 30 mins to a memory stick which i the event of a problem can be popped into any pc/laptop or pad and there is all your bookings and work. Yous need to man up because as long as hes got mugs paying full rent for nowt why would he bother to do anything and do as grandad says and open your own office. if you go down your own office route il recomend you to mercury and well get a free pda each

Ermm there's no memory stick mate.

If I was to open a office the Mercury PDA's would make good door stops.

I take it then that 300 punters were left waiting for non existent cars. I am surprised that the office gets any work. If the other drivers that are being affected by this feel the same way as you, why don't you just set up your own office and then you can have any booking/dispatch system that you like.

Yep you're correct, we didn't get a rent reduction or anything.

So why are you not setting up your own office? How many drivers are being affected? Maybe I should set up an office in your area and offer you all a better deal than you are on now?

Can't get enough together for it to be viable.

So your boss has nothing backing his data up. for the sake of a £10 memory stick yous have lost out. And mercury do tell you from the start to back you database and work up via a usb/cd drive both of which are on the front of the tower. And to help out theyve even put a program on for you to do daily back ups press start > daily back up then theyve listed each day of the week and you click on the correct day and your work is saved. Ours is done every 15 minutes as thats what we chose so nothing is lost. so now as the facts are coming out either they didnt listen to what they were told from the start or the clerkes dont know how to work the system which would explain the amount of trouble yous have Did the clerkes go on the course that mercury supply). even now i bet the work still isnt getn saved . Its all human error and the bosses greed so no doubt if he has to buy a memory stick then your rents will go up

No, nothing is backed up. The machines aren't even re-booted once a week. It's not hard is it?

They all went on the course but most of them have finished or have moved onto better things leaving 2 ops there who went on the course 5 years ago.

All jobs are manual dispatched there's no Auto dispatch because it crashes and sends cars miles out of town for a £3 job, crossing cars coming back etc etc.

There's no doubt it's got something to do with them not backing the system up and having all applications running on it and internet access for the office.

This is exactly what I've been saying here for years. It’s all down to how the systems are managed and unfortunately many so called managers don’t look after the basics then bleat when things backfire. It’s rather like running a car, doesn't mater how much you pay for it, if you don’t maintain it then at some point its going to go wrong.

I’m guessing a bit here but it sounds like you might be using sip technology for your phones and then lost your internet connection because that’s really the only explanation for loosing both your phones lines and dispatch capability. Nothing wrong with doing things this way but you do need a dual router for just this kind of failure.

It's the managers responsibility to ensure that the system is set up correctly and that backups are in place. You have every right to complain if he's not done his job right.

Bill :)

We did have the USB sticks but they were in the gaffers office, they mysteriously went missing when the system was installed.

Not doing a re-boot and backing up the system every 30 when the work has dried up is nothing short of deplorable IMO.

If the office staff are using the internet then itl be facebook, youtube and every game going all of which are infested with maleware/spyware and viruses also youtube and the likes of bbc iplayer will slow your internet bandwidth and kill your gps so thats why the system isnt auto dispatching. Its a work tool and should be treated as such. if its sending the cars quite a distence then thats because the dispatch zone is set to far drop the radius down to what you want 1 2 3 4 miles etc. As for cars crossing each other if the drivers dont work the pda,s properly then the sytem wont know when there clear or soon to clear (thats why the system has journey times ) it cant hold a job for a car clearing in that area. Remember though that the system is set up so the customer gets a taxi as quick a possible and not whats best for the driver. In view of all the trouble yous have had why dosnt the boss ask mercury if they could do a bit training for the staff free or reduced
