Benefit cheat Hatfield cabbies have licences revoked - but they’re still driving taxis
Conning cabbies who fleeced the taxpayer out of nearly £50,000 have had their Hackney Carriage licences revoked – but are still driving taxis.
Shameem and Fateha Chowdhury, of Tiger Moth Way, Hatfield, were spared jail last month despite helping themselves to £33,116 in income support, £12,265 in housing benefit and £3,609 council tax benefit, a staggering total of £48,990.
The husband and wife, 46 and 38 respectively, were driving cabs at the time they were claiming benefits.
This week a council spokesman revealed their Hackney Carriage licences had been taken off
them.
But the shameless pair appealed the revocation and under the rules can continue driving cabs.
A Welwyn Hatfield Council spokesman told the Welwyn Hatfield Times: “We’ve revoked their licenses due to their conviction.
“They appealed this decision at the magistrates court and there will be a hearing on the May 27 to determine their appeal.”
He added: “They are currently working pending that hearing.”
