According to the aa, newstead to hucknal is 4miles? So 4 miles x 43p is £1.72 ? So if she's paying £6 that's £1.50 a mile me thinks? Just out of interest what is the price of a taxi.

I think it's the profit question that's the issue.

43p is the limit the tax man allows before tax is paid, in other words the maximum allowed to cover ones cost.

However this is an abuse, and will only stop when someone is killed in a RTA and the insurance company don't pay out.

It'd be about the same I think.

Last paragraph, 1st column, gives the Transport Tribunal's view on what really IS "hire and reward". If this decision were juxtaposed to the taxi/ph/"volunteer car" sector, my, how things would change!

What they're saying is that if the main business is the carriage of passengers, even if not for profit, then they have to be properly licenced.

Well as it's the same price , perhaps it's a good idea to volunteer.

Tried it today, they don't want Taxi Drivers, they prefer OAP drivers.

I would think they rely on OAPs to be drivers and customers.

Correct, the best thing about it is it's being funded by Ashfield Council and Notitnghamshire County Council.
