Aberdeen taxi drivers could ignore council’s CCTV rulesABERDEEN cabbies could flout rules on filming in taxis if new council regulations are introduced, the Evening Express can today reveal.
A report recommending only non-audio CCTV be allowed in Aberdeen taxis is scheduled for discussion at the city council’s licensing committee next week.
But a driver has said the taxi trade will not conform if the plans go through.
Aberdeen cabbie Keith Webster, who has worked as a taxi driver in the city for 23 years, said: “It is not what drivers are wanting.
“Any incidents that occur happen inside and CCTV acts as a deterrent – if people know they are being filmed they tend to behave themselves.
“The council can’t force it on us and if they do go down that route drivers will use secret spy cameras.”
The draft policy suggests external CCTV recording would be allowed for “accident events only”, while internal CCTV would only be in emergency situations and by use of a “panic button”.
Constant audio recording would not be permitted.
