Footballer arrested after alleged attack on Liverpool taxi


An ex-Premier League footballer was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage to a taxi in Liverpool city centre this morning.

Former Newcastle United player Nile Ranger is being questioned by officers after he was arrested on suspicion of damaging the car after a row with a taxi driver at about 6am.

A Merseyside Police spokesman said: "Merseyside Police has arrested a 22-year-old man on suspicion of causing criminal damage following an incident in a taxi this morning.

"The man, from Middlesex, was arrested after damaging a taxi during an argument with the taxi driver in Water Street Liverpool city centre at about 6am this morning.

"He has been taken to a police station where he will be questioned by officers."

Ranger, who now plays for League One team Swindon Town, appeared in court earlier this month charged with rape but was cleared after a week-long trial.

He also hit the headlines last year for getting a tattoo of his surname on his forehead.

At 3.50pm Merseyside Police confiirmed the 22-year-old had been 2released on bail pending further inquiries.
